Quarter season projected stats and player grades (lol)
Kadri on 82gm pace for:
16G, 28A = 44 Pts
Grade: C+, trying hard but definitely looking more like a puck hog this year.
Frost:
12G, 28A = 40 Pts
Grade: B-, pretty noticable, young guy, still a bit snake bitten
Coronato:
20G, 16A = 36 Pts
Grade: C+, was hoping for more but considering how crap our team is, he's near the top
Huberdeau:
22G, 27A = 49 Pts
Grade: C, meh
Backlund:
12G, 24A = 36 Pts
Grade: C+, about same as last year.. doing a good job for Honzek
Coleman:
28G, 4A = 32 Pts
Grade: C+, goals would be great, but 1 assist in 20 games is pretty pathetic
Rasmus:
12G, 16A = 28 Pts
Grade: C+, at least not as bad as last year
Farabee:
8G, 20A = 28 Pts
Grade: C, Tries hard, gets nothing done.. Would rather he just be Coleman.
Bahl:
9G, 9A = 18 pts
Grade: B, one of the few bright spots this year, +7
Yegor:
10G, 10A = 20 pts
Grade: F, floater city, not scoring, not doing anything else
Klapka:
Same stat line as Bahl,
Grade: C+, was hoping for more but he is definitely being physical as well
Honzek:
Same stat line as Klapka,
Grade: C+, hoping for more offense but doing great defensively
Weegar:
0G, 16A = 16 pts
Grade: D----, can't quite give him an F because I like him but he looks BAD this year, -16 on pace for -64
Hanley
0G, 13A = 13 pts
Grade: D, meh not nearly as good as last year
Pachal:
0G, 12A = 12 pts
Grade: D, meh
The rest of the guys have 2 points or less:
Zary: F, don't know how to fix him
Parekh: C, hoping for a new player after the injury
Bean: D+, scored a goal
Kirkland: F
Lomberg: C-, tries hard and hits a lot
Kuznetsov: B+, great start, keep it going
Huska: F
Wolf: C+
Conroy: C+ (i'm excited about a high draft first time ever)
Overall I got ZERO A's, and 3 B's: Bahl, Kuznetsov, Frost (Frost might be a stretch, maybe should be a C+), and a crap ton of C/D/F
Pretty depressing, not sure why I went through that exercise lol
TL;DR: we succcccck

Coleman could have a B IMO
Cooley is a B...maybe B+ based on expectations

Gotta give Cooley an A minus, that guy has done all that is asked of him and more.
Huberdeau on track for another low scoring season. I know we can blame his teammates and system, but it is disappointing to me that in all his years here, he has not elevated the play of a single Flame. That is mind blowing really.

I know it’s early and patience is a virtue but Parekh is not looking like a superstar, and that bodes bad for this teams future

Lots of star dmen didn't look great until like 22-23. Heck a lot of them don't even play until they are in their 20s

I don't think that's true given that in two of his three seasons here his most common linemate has enjoyed career highs in goals.
Sharangovich scored a career high 31 goals when Huberdeau was his most common linemate (23-24')
Kadri scored a career high 35 goals with Huberdeau as his most common linemate (24-25')

I think you gotta give him until D+4. Alot of the top Dman didn't break out until d+3 or d+4 year.
But yeah definitely not the ideal direction of things so far.

If you really want to feel depressed as a Flames fan, compare Kadri’s total points to Kiefer Sherwood’s goal total.

Skill hasn't been his issue either. He's shown flashes of brilliance.
Gaining some muscle and figuring out the difference in timing the NHL takes some time.

How is Cooley anything less than A, if not A+?
The guy is rocking a 1.75 GAA and .935 save percentage .

Yeah I forgot Cooley, and yes I would give him an A also.. But his minutes are quite insignificant so far.. But you're right that is another bright spot.

Sharangovich is the guy that I am most disappointed in. I could forgive his lack of production last season because sometimes players have trouble getting into a groove after missing time with an injury, and he seemed to be getting over it near the end of the season. I was really hoping he'd get some momentum with a fresh start and clear head.
Bieksa pointing out the obvious, but he just seems to lack competitiveness and confidence. I don't expect Huska to actually do it, but I'd be tempted to throw in the towel on the season and play the heck out of Sharangovich and some of these other chronically underachieving forwards. At this point, I think the goal should be to try an rehabilitate distressed assets and scratching them probably doesn't do that.
Zary is a different story. He doesn't seem like a guy that ever has confidence issues. I am honestly afraid that all those injuries have caught up to him and the ability just isn't there any more.

I think grading a team that's tanking/rebuilding is pretty tough. Is it expectations based? League based?
