Lightning re-sign Tyler Johnson (3 yrs, 3.33m AAV)
haven't seen this yet. Not a bad payday for an undersized guy with only one full NHL season under his belt.
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Tyler Johnson extension with TB is three years, $10M.
Big summer for them, as they still have to re-sign guys like Ondrej Palat, Alex Killorn, J.T. Brown and Mark Barberio, among others. Plus Ryan Callahan obviously, who turns UFA ... no idea if they still have an internal cap like in recent years, but surely they'll have to offload some dead weight (Malone, Ohlund).

That's a pretty fair deal for the Lightning.

If he keeps up his play from this year, this is a great contract. Exciting stuff for TBL with Johnson, Palat, Drouin, etc.

Not really sure what the rush was... I would have waited a year to sign this since this is doesn't cover any of his UFA years.
But I suppose there is a potential that they save a few dollars at the end of the contract.

RFA this summer, so he had to sign something ... and it seems like he's really happy there. Just seems like one of those instances where both sides want the same thing.
Joe Smith @TBTimes_JSmith
Mark MacKay, agent for #tblightning Tyler Johnson, says negotiations were easy. "They were high on Tyler and Tyler was high on them. I think both sides are very happy."
Erik Erlendsson @erlendssonTBO
Details on the 3-year contract extension for Tyler Johnson, makes $2.8 million in 1st year then $3.2 million and $4 million #tblightning

Another emerging talent in Tampa... I wonder how far Connolly is down the depth chart by now?
Is he Tampa's Rico Fata?

They have really done well recently with undrafted signings and late round picks.

I follow Tampa pretty closely (yeah, I know, 2004 and everything ... but I have always liked them, sorry ) and my guess is he won't play another game for them. I'm pretty sure it'll be a situation similar to Colborne in Toronto where they give him away for a middle round pick instead of losing him on waivers. By now, he has been overtaken by several prospects on the wing (Palat, Kucherov, Brown) and they have Drouin coming in ... simply no room for him. He's been fine in the AHL, but it seems he can't make the transition to the NHL effectively. He'll get a chance somewhere, but I reckon it won't be in Tampa.

I'd give Connolly a shot here...If you could get him for a decent price. Maybe a late bloomer.

I definitely wouldn't mind the Flames trading a mid round pick for Connolly. Worth the risk to give him a shot.
