Icon47 Alex Ovechkin possible bad knee injury at World Championships

A story and video here. It looks really ugly.

If this Ovechkin injury is serious and Burrows' lingers into next year teams are going to really start squeezing guys about playing this tournament.

If I was an owner there is no way I would let my franchise player participate in this tourney.

This is why I think hip checks should be illegal. The risk of striking the knees with serious injuries as a result is too big and they're not really a vital part of the game.
So why allow them?

Hope it won't affect next season for him.

@SlavaMalamud Alex Ovechkin is back in the team hotel. Walking on his own, no crutches, but limping. Team doctor says it's "better than expected

Because a good hip check is awesome and has been around forever

It didn't look like the other player went low either. I think the damage occurred when Ovi hopped up and hit with his knee rather than his hip.

I agree completely, sometimes its just better to take the hit. That was 100% on himself.

And I think you cheer for the wrong sport.

Try curling, badminton or golf. but be carefull with golf because one can hit a spectator with the ball because it goes too far.

Ew, burn. You burned him real good. I don't think I've seen a burn that good in a awhile. Like call the burn ward, cause they have a new patient. Such a good burn.

I saw the replay and didn't think it's that bad of a hit. We've seen those hip checks so many times before. I don't know but I think Ovi just want to skip playing the elimination or whatever you call it. He might be getting bored or something and just want to play the playoff.

If there is one thing I've learned of late, this guy reporting injuries on twitter at the world championships loves to make things sound about as dramatic as possible. You'd think these guys are in life and death situations based on how they are talked about when they happen and then you end up with Sven with a broken rib, Burrows with a charley horse and Ovi with a sprained knee.

The hip check was a tad low, but most of the damage comes from Ovechkin trying to jump out of the way. That never ends well. Totally understandable reaction, but sometimes you are better off just taking the hit.

I think that was actually a great hit. The guy basically just stuck his butt out to make the hit, nothing dirty about it.
