Default yet another thread looking for computer advice (gaming Pc for kids)

Hey all,

kids are 6 and 8 and play minecraft constantly on thier iPads and on the xbox. now they want ot start on the computer so they can link up with friends etc.

I am sure they will want to start playing other stuff as they get older as well.

no computer expert here so looking to buy something already done or get someone to build something.

thanks in advance

I would start by using the Recommended System Requirements from Mojang and price out a computer that gets close or exceeds that from there. If you're looking for something that will last longer and play newer games you'll need something much better than that though.

Quote:
Recommended Requirements:
CPU: Intel Core i3 or AMD Athlon II (K10) 2.8 GHz
RAM: 4GB
GPU: GeForce 2xx Series or AMD Radeon HD 5xxx Series (Excluding Integrated Chipsets) with OpenGL 3.3
HDD: 1GB
Latest release of Java 7 from java.com
I assume you can get a computer that meets those specs for around $500? Double the cost if you want something that will last a while.

Maybe even consider the Lenova laptop for $800 that was recommended on the laptop thread and has caused the bruhaw about the wrong price.

If you go on the NCIX site forum, these guys are often helpful in putting together a desktop. Just register and tell them your budget.

I would get something cheap and toss in a low-mid range video card from memory express.

This bundle just came into my email, and it would be extremely good for the purpose you are suggesting:

For a card, something at about $100 would do quite well, like perhaps the R7 250 linne of Raedons
