I wouldn't do it, but only cause my last name is long and (apparently) difficult to pronounce, but I don't see anything wrong with it. We are the "6th man" after all.

I don't see anything wrong with it. If you pay the money and support the team, do whatever you want.
Personally, I would feel a little corny having my own name on my back like that (unless it was a gift from someone associated with the club), but I think it's fine if it makes people feel good. I don't see it as disrespectful anyway.

Of course you can. You can put anything you want on a jersey. Only a-holes want to control what you wear.

I wouldn't do it, but I dont care if otger people do it. I do care when you see people with like "Mr Awesome" with a number 69 on the back though. Just terrible.

a-hole here, your own name on a jersey isn't illegal it's just lame is all.
pick a player you like, is that so hard? if you don't want to 'commit' to a player just leave it blank. Again you can put whatever you want on a jersey but your own name just kinda makes you look like a wiener.

I'd rather have my name and number on a jersey than that of a pro athlete - especially now -too many trades/moves.
A few years ago, we got my dad a Flames jersey with his name and #75 to celebrate his birthday. I don't think him wearing that jersey to a game is lame at all.

You guys are nuts saying its wrong to wear your own name on a jersey. It's the logo on the front that matters anyways. Do what you want with the name bar.

NHL.com offers name customizing on the jerseys they sell, so they don't seem to care.

You could look at it like this - Most players that play for the Flames will not last as long as a Jersey with their names on it. While its great to have a jersey with your favorite players name on it chances are at some point they will leave the team. The team itself, at least in Calgary will probably never leave so having your own name on a Flames jersey would be a sign of respect that you support the team enough to put your own name on its jersey forever.

My theory is no.
Reason being that you wear the jersey to support the team and players on the team.
However there are exceptions:
If a player on the team shares your last name. Kind of a nice little coinsidence. I plan on getting a 1989 Champions jersey one of these days with the player that wasn't my favourite on the team but shares my last name.
If the team unilaterally gives you a jersey with your name. I have a team Canada jersey with my name on the back. Since it was given to me by Hockey Canada I feel that it's acceptable.
That said I don't hold it against anyone who gets their own name on the back. Players do get traded, retire, change numbers, etc.
I have an Adam Pardy Flames jersey in my closet. I don't break it out every often.
I also have an Ian Kinsler Texas Rangers jersey in my closet. I wear that more often but mostly because my other Rangers jersey is from 1999.
It's up to you. I have my own made up set of rules. But it's just that, made up. Do with your jersey what you want. Although I will warn you, it you have an Oilers jersey and throw it on the ice Ben Scrivens might throw it back!

I don't care if someone has their own name on their jersey. Just don't have a C on it. You are not the captain of the Flames!

No, it is in direct violation of the Jersey Foul Bill of Rights.
Quote:
1.) Getting Personal
Easily the most common of jersey fouls, a personalized jersey is a blight on humanity. No one cares who you are. If they wanted to see your name, they'd dig it out of a phone book. Additionally, a jersey like this sets you up for ridicule if you're on the road. Instead of simply being "that guy in the Crosby jersey" you're "that jerk Skolnick from Pittsburgh."

Who cares if he has his name on the back of a jersey. Just because you wouldn't do it doesn't make it wrong for someone else. Besides we don't know the know the person, but he's a Flames fan, lets show him some respect and not judge his character by what he puts on a jersey.

You can do whatever you want, but it's just not cool. It's kinda like wearing a Black Sabbath tee to a Black Sabbath show. The cool kids will point and laugh.

It definitely comes across as a little cheesy and self-centered, but hey it's your money.

I wouldn't say it has anything to do with being self centered, but it's IS cheesy.
Not nearly as bad as jokey jerseys though. I think jerseys with your own name are kind of neat. The only thing id say to strictly avoid is a really well known number to the team (12, 14, 34, etc)

I think it's cool to do so. It's yours and you do what you want with it. I'd rather have one with my name on it than someone who ends up on another team. Imagine wearing a cammy jersey to a game against the nucks if he signed with them....
