The Anaheim Ducks and the Toronto Maple Leafs pulled off the first true blockbuster trade of this year's offseason today.

Maple Leafs GM devo22 said: "This trade is a bold statement to our fanbase that losing is unacceptable to us and that we are serious about trying to get back to the playoffs as soon as possible. We were fully prepared to select a great talent in this year's draft, but when you have the chance to add one of the best defensemen in the world, you have to take the opportunity. Mark is a fantastic player who will drastically improve our blueline for years to come. We also want to welcome Boyd to the organization. We value his two-way play and PK skills, and since we had a vacancy on the third line, we believe that Boyd will step in and help the club on both sides on the ice."

First big move of the offseason for the Ducks. We really wanted to keep Giordano around but after his stellar NHL season he will be demanding a good salary next year. Boyd Gordon is the perfect third liner but some young guys will need to step into his role next season. We are happy to get the third overall pick where we anticipate being able to select someone like Bennett or maybe even Ekblad depending on how the draft goes.
