The USA can't even kill properly anymore.
I think the end of capital punishment is near for our wonderful neighbours to the south, Drug companies are refusing prisons single euthanasia drugs and the 3 drug "cocktales" seem to be a major pain to get to work.
Today it reached a new level, it took 43 minutes to kill Clayton Lockett and by all accounts he was awake the whole time and died of a heart attack.
Lockett was a bad dude no doubt but the way he died is plain wrong, they may as well bring back "gutting" or "drawn and quartered" as a form of execution if someone has to suffer.
I see a huge lawsuit by Lockett's family and it could effect future executions IMO, Lockett had asked for a stay of the the execution until he knew what drugs were going to be used but a judge said no. this case and another one this year (took 10 minutes for a guy to die) could be and likely is a violation of the eighth amendment... "cruel and unusual" punishment.

They should just bring back beheading people. It's quick and you would think painless. Messy sure, but it's probably the most humane.

Can only bring myself to feel sorry for the 19 year old girl and her family. Only skimmed articles briefly, but kidnapped raped shot then buried while still alive...that is an awful ordeal.

I can't believe they still kill people down there. Amazing in this day and age in a first world country.

Tests showed some of the lopped off heads were conscious for a few seconds, and it kind of bothered the executioners as well.
Personally I think the firing squad is the best for both sides, instance death, not likely any pain, and a couple of wax bullets for the shooters so nobody knows if they shot a lethal round.
I'm against the whole thing but that would be my choice.

I think a country that can launch missiles off of drones would be able to automate a firing squad if they wanted to.

Then it would be, who loaded the guns?, who aimed them?...etc.
If it's not an accident and someone dies before their time it's a safe bet there was an executioner or a murderer.

In principle I am against capital punishment.
But then I hear about the crime like in this case and think not only should there be a death penalty but also a lot of suffering to go along with it.
But then I hear about how many people have been put to death only to be proven innocent later.
And then I try to think about nicer things and be grateful that I don't have to make these kinds of decisions.

Yeah I've often thought that. Or some sort of firing squad too. To clarify I'm against capital punishment, but I would think there are still better ways to do it then it is done now. I think lethal injection is more for those doing the execution than the victim. They still don't know for sure if a person feels anything when they are supposed to be out, and as shown by this example, it can go wrong.
