Bishop, Rask and Varlamov Named Vezina Finalists
No surprises here, probably goes to Rask.

Its gotta be Rask.
Good for Ben Bishop though, I remember when he was almost drummed out of the league playing for Ottawa.

Surprised about the lack of Lack, thought he was top 3 this year for sure.

the irony of all three is that their previous team gave up on them or determined their depth chart wrong when deciding which goalie to trade.

It's funny cause I certainly think Rask should win the Vezina...but that Varlamov is a stronger Hart candidate. Different awards of course. I'd also imagine the Captials would love to have the Varlamov trade back. Everyone thought Colorado overpaid when the trade went down but now it looks like a pretty smart move.

Lack was part of the Vezina talk until McGrattan took away that dream.

Rask will win it, but I think Varlamov should win it.

This. Just goes to show what a crap shoot it is sometimes trying to find a goalie... and the fine line between third string/backup castaway and Vezina candidate.

Varly is widely inconsistent from year to year. He could win this but I'd like to see him do it for two years in a row before I put him up with the elite goalies like Rask.
I'd also guess the return is why the Caps were willing to trade Varlamov... a first round pick for an unproven goalie is a decent gamble.

He's 25, most goalies don't even become NHL starters until around that age, some even later. He'll be fine.

Oh agreed... I think he'll be fine but he was a big reason why they sucked last year.

Oh how I miss the days of the franchise goaltenders that would battle year in and year out for the Vezina. Congratulations to Bishop but he's essentially a journeymen goalie on his 3rd team and there is a good chance he doesn't replicate this success ever again.

Or maybe he had a breakout year? It's not like he's Tim Thomas who didn't have his first great season until he was 35.

Yup, maybe that too. Certainly didn't say it was a given.

I think Bishop's situation is similar to what happened with CBJ's Bobrovsky.
Regardless, Rask is taking this one.

When was the last time Lundqvist wasn't a Vezina finalist? I imagine it's been a few years.

The Caps ended up screwing it up... but they got Filip Forsberg out of the deal and then used the 2nd pick to get Riberio. You wouldn't make the deal now.. but at the time it was a no brainer.
