Boston marathon finish line evacuated due to susp. backpack. Barefoot man dropped it and ran away #7news pic.twitter.com/0VjMDqXmtT

Quote:
The area near the finish line of the Boston Marathon was evacuated Tuesday night after two unattended backpacks were left at the finish line.

Police tape has been put up around the photo bridge on Boylston Street.

WBZ-TV photographers on scene say they saw a man with the backpack screaming “Boston Strong” before police cleared everyone from the area.

Witnesses say the man was wearing a long black veil and was acting strange. It is unclear whether or not the man was taken into custody.

I'm guessing this is just some horribly tasteless prank. Sure hope they catch the guy and prosecute him to the fullest extent.

Wouldn't care if they released the canine unit on him to soften him up a little.

You would think with all the security this wouldn't have been possible.

Dude, really? I agree he should be charged but the idea that a guy plays a stupid prank and you want him physically harmed by animals... I don't understand the lust for violence of some people on here. Like people calling for the torture of the murderer in the other thread. Come on.

I doubt he is serious. It's a release of frustration at the issue.

I've stopped paying attention to any revenge fantasies on CP, I just gloss over them.

All news stories have varying degrees of severity and there are some pretty bad people discussed on CP, but the revenge fantasies are always pretty silly, no matter how bad the story, imo.

I'd have no problem with a K9 unit letting their dog chew on this guy for a while...

As far as this goes as a prank, it will be real damn funny when dude is charged with making terroristic threats.

It was more a flippant joking comment, in part mirroring the tastelessness of said prank, it that's really what it ends up being. No need to go all internet morality police

After last year's tragedy, a guy leaving a backpack, and running away would cause widespread panic. I hope the guy that did this is mentally ill. If not, I would not care if he was dealt some mob justice.

Inciting a riot would be a good charge. Thus is basically akin to saying you are going to blow up an airplane in the airport.

As a complete aside, I find it rather hilarious that that news agency bragged about an "EXCLUSIVE PHOTO". It stopped being exclusive the second they tweeted it.

Harmed by animals isn't right. But unless this "prank" was committed by a minor, or by someone with a very real disability of some sort that legitimately clouds their judgement or understanding of things, one has to seriously ask what is wrong someone who would think this type of prank is ok. And I'd say fair debate is on in regards just how dangerous someone with such a poor sense of judgement is to the rest of society, and just exactly what the best outcome would be for the greater good of everyone when it comes to this individual.

You want to punish him. Sentence him to scrub every camp toilet in the country with a toothbrush.

Stupid prank.

Can you really be charged with leaving backpacks somewhere? I know the fear that they could contain explosives, but really? What charge can be made for leaving empty backpacks? I mean one that could reasonably stick.
