Default Good places to get a vehicle Out Of Province inspection?.

So over the weekend I bought a used car in Kelowna.

Because it is a 2011 with 15,000km and I bought it from a dealership, I didn't even think about an Out of Province Inspection.

Turns out I have to get one to register the car. The lady at the register suggested Canadian Tire but they are charging $180. Does anyone know a place to get an inspection done quick and cheap?

Don't know anywhere in Calgary, but I have seen some places around Edmonton for $129. The government of Alberta does list all places where you can get one done on a website. I've found that privately owned garages generally charge less than chain places like Canadian Tire or Kal Tire who will insist that you need a wheel alignment.

Rapid Brake Center. Tom there is a good guy and has always been very honest with me. I bought a car in B.C. last year the inspection cost me $135. You need a request for OOP inspection form before you go there.

Awesome, thanks.

Didn't even think to look on the government of Alberta website. I will give some places a call tomorrow and see.

I took my out of province car to Wheels Autosource. $150 but he had it done pretty quick and didn't find anything wrong with it. It's a 2007, and I had it inspected 2 years ago, but when I dropped the car off he gave me the impression that it was new enough that he shouldn't find anything wrong with it (i.e. he wasn't going to try and make me get a wheel alignment or anything).

In response to the comments above, I would make the following suggestions living in Alberta:
1. Do not use CT for your Out of Province Inspection
2. The RIV is fine to use CT

CT are very picky on the "road worthiness" of your vehicle. They failed my tires, told me I need a wheel alignment, also did not warn me about a number of items such as window tinting. It is a money grab for them. They wanted to sell me a full set of tires, claimed my rims were bent, sell me rims, and do a complete wheel alignment...

This was a brand new Audi 2013 with only 12,000kms I had just brought up from the US. They saw the expensive car and thought they would cash in! Very unprofessional.

I will never walk in there again. Would recommend you don't either.

does anyone know if you have to have a travel trailer from out of province inspected?

my parents in PEI are giving us their trailer and I'm driving home to pick it up and going to be going through the states so want to make sure I have all the correct documentation

AMA has a good resource for this as well. (http://ama.ab.ca/knowledge-base/arti...re-in-my-area/) Although this list only has approved inspection centers for buying/selling, most will do a OOP as well. I called the one on the list from Airdrie and they told me it would be $160 for the inspection. I also called a dealership in Airdrie and they wanted $270 for the OOP.

Another piece of helpful information I was told that any cracks or chips in the windshield bigger than a pea will result in a fail.
