Default Flames finish 4th last in the NHL for the 2013-2014 season

And with the season in the history books the Flames have finished 27th in the NHL.

The NHL lottery will take place on April 15th @ 6pm MT and broadcast on TSN.

Here is how the lottery picks will break down

10.7% chance of winning the lottery and getting 1st overall pick
59.5% chance of a team below them in the standings winning the lottery or New Jersey winning the lottery to retain the 4th overall pick
29.8% chance of a team above them (excluding New Jersey) in the standings winning the lottery and getting bumped to the 5th overall pick

the reason the Flames will not move down if New Jersey wins the lottery, is the NHL has ruled they will get the 30th overall pick regardless of lottery outcome or standings

Has to be the best bottom 5 finish for a team.

Exciting games, hard work, and good showing for youth.

Really happy with this. Even if things go bad, we still have a chance at one of the top players in this draft at 5th.

I just really hope that Burke allows the scouting team to do what they've been doing the last few years.

60% chance of 1,2 or 3 winning the lottery and the Flames staying at 4.

I can't believe how great of a season it was for a team to finish 27th in the league. So many positives and yet we still end up in a great draft spot. Really just the best a fan could hope for this season. I'm very proud of the young Flames team and their accomplishments this year.

Great job boys!

So if Calgary gets lucky and wins the lottery, do they steal Ekblad away from Edmonton or take Bennett/Reinhart?

It's hard to say what would be worse, the Oilers winning the lottery or a team below us winning it. The absolute worst thing of course would be for the Canucks to win it, that better not happen to us.

I would say Ekblad but won't be surprised if they took Bennett.

Ekblad I think would be a good choice but Reinhart would be cool too.

Ekblad to troll the Oilers and to shore up the D-corps, as tonight showed that AHL defencemen are like fish out of water at the NHL level at times.

This last game (and the season as a whole) unscores your point. Gaudreau, Monahan, Arnold, Granlund, Wotherspoon, Baertschi, Reinhart, Ortio since the 2009 draft.

Sieloff, Gillis, Jankowski, Poirier, Klimchuk, Kanzig, etc still in the hopper.

The Flames' scouting team has been solid for 4-5 years now.

Team below us would be worse by far. It doesn't matter where the greasers pick.

Now that you see the final standings I wonder if Florida is our trading partner? Its not too far down for Florida to drop from 2nd to 4th and the Flames get Reinhart, Bennet or Ekblad.
