Icon45 Shanahan to be named Leafs President

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Confirming that MLSE prez Tim Leiweke has contacted @NHLShanahan for top hockey ops position with Maple Leafs.

Guess Nonis' days are numbered.

What has Shannon done to deserve such a position? Nonis should be given maybe at most a 1/2 season to turn it around, but to me the guy just doesn't have an overall picture for what the team should be. He's as good as gone and he's average at best. One of the worst decisions they made was to lose Burke.

The only worrisome thing about the Leafs hiring a Hockey Ops president, is that it is possible that when Nonis gets fired, he becomes Flames GM.

What has Sakic or Linden done to deserve the President of Hockey Ops position? Doesn't appear like you need a whole lot of experience to get the job, just a good hockey mind.

Spent 20 years playing in the league for some of the most successful organizations during his career and then has spent many years working in the NHL office.

What exactly does he need to do to "deserve" it?

Nooooooo. Why does "The Circle of Life" from the Lion King play in my head when I think of that scenario....?

Better to have a guy that won't throw you under the bus than one who would. He was gone whether Nonis was there or not both times

Why would Flames fans accept this kind of nepotism? Why would we want the guy who has blown every managing opportunity he's ever had in the NHL?

What do the fans have to do with hiring? Its completely up to the owners

Why did they let Darryl hire Brent? Why did they let Darryl hire Keenan, a guy known to destroy locker rooms with his mind games?

How is that Nepotism?

Are guys only allowed to hire guys they have no prior relationship with? Seems like there would be zero hires if that is the case.

Where is the justification behind hiring the guy who has replaced you twice, when there is no correlation between Burke, Nonis, and achieving success, and Nonis is fresh from coming out of an embarrassing collapse?

Fans have no say? Of course they don't in the selection process, but what kind of message does it send to fans if Burke hires him? I'd say, looking around the league, that fans have the biggest say in running GMs out of town.

Would we be allowed to not accept it? That would be awesome.

Burke: "Here is nonis, new GM"
Us: "Nah, we're good. Next please"
Burke: "Okay, nevermind"

That's really not the situation I had in mind but okay.

Third time's a charm. Maybe.

The only reason Nonis has replaced Burke twice was because Burke brought him into those organizations in the first place.

I don't believe Nonis has ever been brought into a new organization by anyone other than Brian Burke, and Burke has hired Nonis every time he has been out of work.

I hope Nonis does not find himself as the Flames GM, if he is let go.

He has burned through his teams twice. Flames need a new mind. I would prefer having a younger GM at the helm.
