Default 2014 NHL Awards Predictions

So with the season coming to an end today I thought it would be a good time to weigh in with some award predictions.

Hart Trophy
Winner-Sidney Crosby
Runner Ups-Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry

Crosby is the obvious winner this year, with how consistent he's been. Getzlaf is assured of being a nominee, but the third one is a tough one. I went with Perry, as you rarely see two players nominated from the same team, but the Ducks live and die with those two. Giroux will receive consideration as well, and could end up third in voting.

Norris Trophy
Winner-Duncan Keith
Runner Ups-Zdeno Chara and Shea Weber

It seems a lot of people have Chara to win it this year, but he didn't get off to a great start, and is outside the top 20 in defensive scoring. I think Keith deserves it this year, for his overall game and has remained a consistent threat this year. Weber slides into the third spot since the Predators would be a bottom feeder without him.

Vezina Trophy
Winner-Tuukka Rask
Runner Ups-Semyon Varlamov and Carey Price

Rask has pretty much had the award sewn up since day one. I think he can actually play better then he has, but he leads all starters in both save percentage and shutouts (second in GAA). Bishop could also slide in there, but I think Price deserves a nomination for what he's done the past couple weeks.

Selke Trophy
Winner-Patrice Bergeron
Runner Ups-Anze Kopitar and Jonathan Toews

Bergeron once again holds the title as the best two-way forward in all of hockey. I think Toews will pass him soon, but his injuries in the last few weeks give Bergeron the edge. I hope Kopitar receives a nomination as well, but there are others who might get it.

Calder Trophy
Winner-Nathan MacKinnon
Runner Ups-Ondrej Palat and Hampus Lindholm

MacKinnon is going to win this without a doubt, but I struggled with the other two. It's really hard to ignore Palat's numbers though (59 points and a +32). Johnson could very well be the third nominee, but I think Lindholm deserves recognition for doing stellar work for the top team in the conference. Aside from MacKinnon winning this one is pretty wide open.

Jack Adams Trophy
Winner-Patrick Roy
Runner Ups-Mike Babcock and John Cooper

I am definitely biased towards Roy, but I think he deserves it without a doubt. Sure the Avs tanked it last season, but they were still a long way off from second in the conference. No team comes close to the turnaround Roy has done with the Avs this season. Just look at the exceptional work he's done with Varlamov, who was downright awful last season. The other spots are kinda wide open with Berube and Julien deserving recognition, but they had more to work with then Cooper and Babcock did.

I am not going to comment on the rest, but feel free to predict the Lady Byng if you'd like. I just don't have any idea what the they look for in awarding that one.

Hart: Crosby

No brainer lapped the field in points and continues to be a contributor on FO\s and defensively.

Norris: Keith

Seems like an easy one as well although the number of guys who could be nominated for it seems like it could almost get to double digits.

Vezina: Rask

Again easy choice in the he was the best and has more of a repuation than other guys close to him.

Calder: MacKinnon

Keeping up the theme of easy picks. Some may like to make an argument for a lesser name as picking the #1 pick from the year before seems kind of boring but nobody that close in a year with a lot of good choices many without the fanfare of being a top choice.

Selke: Kopitar

This one is tough because of many good options and it is somewhat unclear what each voter uses to determine who wins. It seems to be a way to reward good players who are defensively responsible. Kopitar hasn't won it before and the Kings are a great defensive team.

Adams: Mike Babcock

I am sure Roy will win because upexpected team doing well is the sure fire way to win this award but Babcock has done some pretty good things with a mediocre, or below that line-up. Congrats to Roy but the Avs are loaded upfront.

I'm surprised no one has mention Bishop for the Vezina. Has comparable stats to Rask, while playing in more games and behind a worse D.

The Lady Bing must be a slam dunk for ROR.

I think he has 2 PIM on the season.

such a prestigious award.

But in ROR's situation it is extremely impressive he can play in such an aggressive manner, put up points the way he has, and somehow not take penalties.
