It's pretty pathetic I had to Google him to figure out who he was. I ought to be more knowledgeable of who the people are running the country.

RIP

I had a feeling he wasn't well. He looked terrible for the last couple of years. Rest in Peace.

I feel your shame. At first I was thinking of Joe Flaherty of SCTV fame. My condolences to the family.

Wow, that is shocking news. 64 is not old. His health was clearly in decline, evidenced by his drastic change in physical appearance. He was struggling with a skin condition that was fairly serious.

And he just stepped down as finance minister last month, he must have known it was coming.

He battled it out too long IMO, hopefully he was able to spend his last few months of no work with loved ones!

wow, according to Jim himself, the skin condition was a minor issue and was not a threat to his health. Heart attack maybe?

yup

A source close to the family told the CBC's Evan Solomon that Flaherty died of a massive heart attack.

Was shocked to hear the news, I was happy for him after he resigned the finance profile because it would give him more time with his family. Condolences to his family and RIP Jim Flaherty.
