Default Rinaldo suspended 4 games

Pretty pathetic. About as textbook an illegal hit to the head as it gets and the NHL just completely fails their players again. A joke.

It looks to me as though he was targeting the head. I would have preferred a longer suspension.

Thanks for the very clear GIFs

Should be the 1st round of the playoffs IMO. That's a flying elbow straight to the temple.

Maybe watching too much Tony Jaa?

He left his feet and threw an elbow straight to the head... 4 games for that is a joke.

How that only got 4 games is ridiculous.

Rinaldo is the next Patrick Kaleta... sooner or later you'd hope Philly will get tired of his garbage.

It was the leaving his feet part that does it for me. The Buffalo player does have his head down really low, and the speed of the play might have made it easy to miscalculate, but leaving his feet makes it dirty enough that he should have received more IMO.

Too bad, because Rinaldo can throw some really nice open nice hits occasionally.

that was brutal, 4 games isn't enough. I don't get the need to hit the guy in the head or why he left his feet. Why not just hit him square in the body and knock him down.

If he is a repeat offender, this definitely isn't long enough.

1) Rinaldo isn't a dirty player, per se. Only one previous suspension, for charging. Since the suspension was over 2 years ago, he doesn't count as a repeat offender. Saying he should miss the whole 1st round of playoffs is a stretch.

2) Guy plays on the edge and a bit recklessly, charges, but isn't the type to cheap shot and go for head shots.

3) Look at the Buffalo player's head. Why is he bending over so much. Yea, Rinaldo makes contact with the head, but Ruhwedel could do a better job protecting himself.

Sad part for him is that he just got promoted from the 4th line to the 2nd line. He got a goal in that game, plenty of ice time, and just blew a great opportunity for himself.

Really? looks pretty much he's looking straight at his head in the second GIF and decides to explode into it by jumping.

He's stretched out like that because he needs to keep the puck in because Rinaldo with his stick out could cause a turn over, and the puck is at the fringe of his range so he needs to reach out, how would he know the flyer would play his head and not the puck.

Yeah, just look at the way he was dressed too. He was practically begging for it. You don't take a shot like that unless you want to get hit.

Oh wait...am i muddling my blame the victim defenses?

wut? He jumped and threw his elbow at his head. Has a dirty hit ever been more clear than this one?

“Just some bad timing and a little vulnerability on his side of the puck, too,” he said. “So my bad and his bad at the same time.”

Yes, Rinaldo really said that.

Clearly it's Ruhwedel's fault for the concussion. How dare he attempt a point shot and not worry about some hack lunging through his head in a league that has vowed to remove head shots from the game during a contest that is a blowout in the third period.

While we're at it, how dare Liewen attempt to make a save and not know who he's out there against and that Schenn was going to cartwheel through his crease and roundhouse him in the back of the head.

Hopefully the dumb kids like Ruhwedel and Liewen smarten up and figure out how to play real hockey...if the concussions don't end their careers of course.

Hurray NHL!

The more I watch those gifs, the more I feel he should have gotten an inperson hearing and 20+ games. That is as blatant a hit to the head, intent to injure as ever there was.

Isn't this the same doosh bag that blindsided Iggy on the boards and then cowardly rushed Iggy when asked to fight? How'd he get away with only 4 games for that viscous elbow?

This guy reminds me a little bit of Carcillo. If the league wants to eliminate fighting (I dont, I love it), headshots and all the crap that looks bad on ESPN highlites down south, this is the kind of guy that isn't going to have a long career.

I disagree with your assessment. I thought the hit on Iggy was clean and while he got some early punches in on the fight, they were both engaged and ready to go. Love Iggy, but you can't win them all.

I do think he deserves more than 4 games though for his hit on Ruhwedel. I think 7-10 would have been more appropriate. Probably would have had a harsher sentence had it not been the end of the season.
