LF: Blinds Quote
Hi CP,
looking for recommendations / referrals for sales reps who are willing to meet at my home and give me quote for blinds.
I am getting a few quotes from some sales reps and wondering if anyone can pass on some names.
Thanks!

I went through our builder and they sent us to Best for Less Blinds and Shutters LTD. The dude met us at the house (was super friendly), measured everything up, had some samples and gave a quote right there. We ended up going with all honeycomb blinds for 8 windows (4 being blackout). They are the top to bottom ones too so you can lower the top along with raising the bottom. Total came to about 2k installed which I thought was a decent deal considering 3 of our windows were quite large.
The contact was Cornel or Adriana 403-253-4884 or cell 403-809-4848.
Good luck!

We did ours on-line via selectblindscanada. Had to measure the windows ourselves, but CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. We ended up with honeycomb blinds that also retract top down and bottom up. Honestly, for one of the smaller windows, the honeycomb blind was less expensive than our temporary paper blind that we bought at home depot...
They will also send color swatches too...

Yeah I'm doing mine this week as well.
I was quoted anywhere from $6k-$12k for goddam BLINDS from some of the local people who come to your house and do it, which is ludicrous.
I took one of the quotes I got from one of the people who came out and measured all my windows, went on blinds.ca and matched up exactly what I was quoted, and it came to $3k. I have to install them myself but blinds are about as simple as it gets when it comes to home renos.
It's criminal what some of the Calgary companies charge.

My wife is an interior designer and she uses theshadestore.com quite a bit. Should be cheaper than many local options that sell Hunter Douglas etc.
And yeah, blinds are ridiculously expensive for some reason. I don't get it either.

Thank you for the responses so far.
I got a quote for $1,848 (includes GST and installation).
it covers 8 Windows (4 black out roller shades) & 3 Blackout Honeycomb shades (single side) and 1 non Blackout Honeycomb shade.
Sound like a good deal?
I think I am going to call the numbers above for quotes.
Failing that, I saw some really nice roller shades at ikea for next to nothing. Problem is, I would have to cut them and hack saw the metal part to make them fit my windows.

Where was your quote from? Seems decent to me.
I have used the ikea shades. They aren't too difficult to cut to size and they work fairly well. Definitely block out the light.

Also doing blinds....Selectblinds was almost twice as much as blinds.ca, thats surprising. Had an in house quote from someone who sells hunter douglas here in town and it was nearly 3G for our bonus room alone!! I'm in the same boat as someone else, why the hell does it cost so much for something that takes little skill to make, is simply cut and assemble at the right dimensions, and hang with 3 brackets....Absurd.....You could also try Costco, they usually give costco cash cards when you buy through them, and they do in house as well.

We got ours from Spring Window Fashions (available through the Costco website) and they're great. Not sure about how cost compares but likely similar to others and probably higher quality

We recently got blinds and Costco was the highest quote that we recieved! Ended up getting a decent price from Fitz Flooring on Bow Trail but online was by far the cheapest if you are willing to do your own install.

Dave's Blinds was easily the cheapest from the quotes I had for my house. He arrived on time and gave me a quote all at once...Blinds installed a few weeks later.
Honestly great!
And he gave me a CP discount!!!
