Oh look its another water fad!

What about tap water and refillable water containers? Aren't they better? We use reverse osmosis then carbon filtered purified drinking water from the municipal source at the location of our filling plant. As we grow, our goal is to ship our filled product the shortest distance possible by establishing multiple filling locations near our major metros. We don't label our product as a "speciality" or "luxury" water - instead we service the convenience market for simple, refreshing, packaged water. - See more at: http://www.boxedwaterisbetter.com/#sthash.Mpn5UMTV.dpuf

Eco-conscious Calgarians can now buy drinking water in 500 millilitre cartons — an option that’s better for the environment than plastic bottles, according to the U.S. manufacturer.
The makers of Boxed Water is Better are touting their product as a greener alternative to other drinking waters on the market.
"Plastic bottles are entirely composed of a non-renewable resource — petroleum," said company founder Benjamin Gott.

But according to Jeff Linton, who is with the Alberta Bottle Depot Association, gable top containers are less recyclable than PET plastic water bottles.
"When that container is recycled, 100 per cent of that PET material is captured. When the paperboard or the gable-top material is recycled, only the paper is recovered and the other layers of material are not recoverable, and so are lost to the recycling process. Their goal in recycling gable tops is to achieve a 75 per cent recovery of material," said Linton.

I saw these at Co op. Not a bad concept that cartons are better than plastic.
Dont roll your eyes, since the bottled water industry makes hundreds of millions off of the general public

But bottle people have always had a pathological hatred for carton people.

The marketing angle on these is great, a simple eye catching package that is the polar opposite of anything else in the beverage cooler. Saw a pallet of em at Co-op this weekend and the shelf presence is fantastic. The amount of people stopping to pick one up and seeing what exactly this strange looking box was looked to be quite high when I was at the grocery store.
So for that reason alone they'll sell a ton. People will pick it up, be lead to believe they are making an informed/responsible decision and changes are we'll see these things everywhere this summer. But the practicality of "oh hey, every cup holder in every vehicle is round" will eventually prevail, and 5 years from now we'll be looking back and saying "hey, remember boxed water?"
Anyways, cool packaging from a design/marketing point of view.

That's a step sideways..
Cool trick I will share with you:
Take an empty wine bottle, fill it with water, let sit open in your fridge for 24 hours.
Pour the water into another glass later and enjoy.

Sometimes you're out and you want a drink and you can't/don't want to find a water fountain- so I see the market for bottled water.
It's a silly thing, but the market will likely never disappear.
Boxed water? Big deal, would not buy it over a plastic bottle, especially at increased cost.

It bothers me when people in this city drink bottled water in their homes. It's just so much waste.

Refill hundreds or thousands of times, when recycled 100% is reclaimed.

Yeah
For me bottled water is a mobile convenience.
I will pay for it when i am out and about instead of pop but at home its straight from the tap with a bit of ice.

I can't beleive the amount of people that do this. I was at my GFs the other day, helped myself to a glass of water from the tap and hysteria ensued.
"Do you want a bottle? We have bottles in the fridge."
"It's ok the tap is good"
"No, no! let me get you a bottle"
"No really I'm ok thanks"
"Are you sure?"
GF: "Yeah he drinks from the tap."
Silence. They all look at me like a freak. It's Calgary, people. We have some of the best tap water in the world.

It's sad that people think a corporation has their safety in mind, but not municipal government.
