2014 Crossfit Open
Anyone else registered? 14.1 is out in a few hours....
This is my first one (I started Xfit last year as the games were going) so I'm a little nervous. There are a few fellas in our affiliate that have been training 6 or 7 days a week (in various disciplines) specifically for this open, and they're monsters. Gonna be fun competing alongside, hopefully I don't die.
And yes, if anyone wants to come out (Hulkrogan?) to see me do competitive burpees you're more than welcome. Our box hired a DJ for the event Friday night, so you can get your groove on while I do 400 situps and spastic pullups.

Where do you train?
I'm at Crossfit Currie Barracks. Good luck with 14.1

Motivate. I tried Currie Barracks but the lack of showers turned me off. Eric is a great guy though, and I trained with some of his staff at one point or another during my rugby days. Seemed a little pricey too.
I know a few fellas over at Currie that are right into it, you likely know them too. I was put right to shame last year when I first started, I'm hoping to redeem myself after putting in a (somewhat) committed effort the last few months.
Just praying there isn't a heavy focus on overhead squats.

I've been at Currie for about 3 months now and doing crossfit for about 4 years... thankfully I live about 3 minutes away so I don't find the no showers THAT big of a deal! Also compared to my last gym the price is astronomically better for me. Lots of great athletes there.. I am good friends with Dave B so I am hoping he has a big year, as well as all the coaches and competitors.
I was hoping to join in on the fun of the open this year, but I have been getting my entire back tattooed neck to legs.. not an easy task to keep training 6 days a week when you get tattooed every 2-3 weeks. So I will have to watch from the sidelines this year
I personally love OH Squats, but for your sake I will hope they aren't a big component this year!

Everybody has their kryptonite, OHS are mine. I've got long gangly arms and legs which make it ridiculously hard for me to balance anything while I'm squatting. It's pretty annoying watching 115lb women put up bigger numbers than me.
On the flipside I can row like a pro, but seeing as that component has never been in an open it doesn't help much.
Eric T is a pal of mine that got me into it last year, I believe he's still there. My goal is to get into his head at some point in the next month

This will be interesting. I'm either on for the DU's, or horribly off. It varies day to day.
Snatches won't be an issue.
I'm either going to crush it tomorrow or look like an idiot whipping myself in the forearms. There will be no middle ground!

My double unders need serious work so that would have been a major stumbling block for me!

2nd year of competition out of Crossfit 403 in Airdrie. I cannot wait to see what my arms look like after multiple double under failure attempts
Good luck to everyone!

I had to do double unders in my lifters last week (my fault). My arms looked like I had been tortured

Yeah, I'm going to invent the forearm sock for people (like me) who suck at DU's. Make millions for sure.

168.
Re-do Monday with a better (slower) opening pace so I don't keel over after 5 minutes.
Looking for 200+

Did 14.1 this afternoon and got 204. Satisfied given my training lately.
Then I saw that Foning got 444... Jesus

14.1 Result: 130 Reps. Had the skpping rope end come apart leaving me with a broken rope, was handed a rope too short as a backup and lost all composure. Hope 14.2 goes better.

Dan Bailey 461
Samantha Briggs 472
I tried again and was humbled with a 174. Did the DU's pretty much unbroken, but the snatched completely gassed me. I need more strength and met/con work.
Samantha Briggs for all you fellas wanting pics of crossfit ladies lol

I watched worlds for women from last year and they had a swimming component. I bet Samantha would sink like a brick and then all I would have to do is learn pull ups then I WIN!
Seriously...some serious athletes there. If I wasn't so freaking old and committed to swimming, I'd be tempted.
