Glencross helping the youngins'
Knowing that Glencross has found his way into the dog house of many fans, it is good to see a positive story about the role he is playing to help some of the kids along:

A cool story about Glennie and moreso Fed-ex. But what is Glennie actually doing for these guys to help make their lives easier? Asking them how they are doing? I would hope thats just common amongst teamates... So what is so extrodinary about what he is doing and hows does that make him invaluable?

This is cool and all, but I can't help but be reminded of Hanowski being left alone in the Saddledome after a game or practice last year and Conroy getting super pissed about it.

Gio: The leader we all wanted and got. Leads by example on and off the ice. One of the best defencemen in the league.

It's examples like these that show you can't trade away all your veterans for picks and/or prospects. Veterans need to show the younger guys how to act and behave like an NHLer. If not, you get situations like Edmonton.
I also like how they are continuing to work hard, and win games. Sure it hurts their draft stock, but Calgary needs to create a culture of winning.

They've done their jobs so well to the point that the confidence that the kids are feeling is having the feedback effects of rubbing off on the vets. McGrattan suddenly thinks he's Kane out there, it's awesome.

That's fair, can't really argue with any of that. For me I've yet to be convinced though. The article came across as more of a PR piece for Glencross.

No one ever claimed he was curing cancer, he's just being a welcoming vet to the rookies. Nothing more nothing less. Not sure your post is warranted.

That's the first thing I though to, but then I thought that Bob and his staff must have had quite a few discussions with the vets on this team and about how that needed to change. All we've heard this season is about how things have improved in the lockeroom and how each vet has for the most part stepped up and embraced their role. I think Hartley and his staff deserve a ton of credit for making that happen.
Honestly last season I thought the leadership on this team was a disgrace and all that Hanowski bit did was make me even more mad. I don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but I think it's safe to say that changes have been made and regardless of our position in the standings, we have a very strong veteran leadership group now. IMO this is the number 1 reason Edmonton is still no good. They lack the veteran presence like that we have.
Kudos to all the older members who have embraced their role and taken the kids under their wings.

Performance crushing expectations and a constant feeling of inadequacy being alleviated by admitting the team is bad today in hopes of being better "tomorrow" probably has a lot more to do with it than Bouw/Iggy leaving.

Core player may be a bit strong, but I certainly view Glenny as a quality, economical, top 9 forward that we should be in no hurry to get rid of.
