Population screening using PSA testing for prostate cancer has been found by the US Task Force to be more harmful than good. It more often leads to false positives (ie. it is positive but there's no cancer) leading to biopsies and other interventions that can be harmful. I would not recommend you have a PSA test unless you have symptoms (urinary, etc).

That's Dang for posting that. It's controversial right now because prostate cancer has a very high survival rate of caught early. The argument for it is that saving a life through early detection is worth the extra pain from unnecessary biopsies. The argument against is that digital exams and monitoring symptoms of Prostatic Hyperplasia are now accurate anyways

A fellow I know (about age 60) didn't do his prostate tests or exams and has now been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer. I imagine he put it off thinking it's maybe one in a thousand, but it turns put he's the one. Damn shame. Men, get the test or examination done.

Exactly. A cousin of mine is a doctor(and a fellow CPer) and told me the exact same thing. He doesn't recommend the man van at all and thinks they cause way more harm then good.

Medical talk is almost a foreign language to me. So what's the best way to get screened then?

Talk to your good ole family Dr. If your over 40 or have family history and are over 30, he can do a digital exam
