Default Alberta government considering relaxing liquor laws?

City cops in both Edmonton and Calgary saw no major incidents as a result of the hundreds of hockey fans packing local bars at 5 a.m. to see Canada defeat Sweden 3-0 on the ice in its second straight Olympic gold medal to close the Sochi Olympics.

Edmonton Police Service Inspector Chad Tawfik said the special serving hours for Sunday's game brought out "respectful and polite" patrons. The reasonable behaviour has Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Jonathan Denis as well as Labour Minister Thomas Lukaszuk gathering feedback on Alberta's liquor laws over social media.
A bit odd that it's only occurred to them that we might not need a nanny-state because of the hockey game, and not the persistent cab shortage in Calgary or the Red Mile, for example, but whatever. I also realize that floating the idea on social media hardly indicates any serious level of consideration.

I was at a packed bar on Whyte Ave in Edmonton and it went off without a hitch. The police showed up for a few minutes and then left.

I definitely agree with revamping the liquor laws though. I can smoke as much as I want and gamble as much as I want but I can only drink during appropriate times. It seems odd and does cause problems with closing times.

Although, I don't see it affecting me all that often. I had a few pints watching the game which was great but it does affect your day and I was pretty bagged by the end of the day.

The people I feel bad for is shift workers. They work a midnight shift but can't go for a beer at the end of the shift.
