Default Insurance Settlement - Re: Kids in Accident

I was in an accident a couple years ago that involved minors. Tried to find the original accident thread, but I can't seem to.

I recall that there was some sort of special requirement for accepting a settlement on the minors behalf that was mentioned in the thread, but I cannot recall what those requirements are, and Google is being useless on the subject.

Am I remembering correctly? or is it just like any regular settlement and the parent/guardian can accept without any other considerations.

Depends......I think, but please dont take this at my word, but under $5000.00 you can do sign an indemifying agreement, which in short says, if you piss away the money and you kids want the money when they turn 18 you will pay it to them.

Over $5000 you need to get the Public Trustee involved.

Short answer is, speak to a lawyer when settling kids injuries.

Another point to remember is you kids have untill their 20th B-day to settle their claim.

Don't settle until they are 20 and be sure to blame everything from now until then on the accident. They get F's in school must be from the accident. Its funny they way people think sometimes.
