Zetterberg out for season

Red Wings' Henrik Zetterberg had surgery today to remove part of disc in his back. Team said it went well. Might be out 8 weeks but not sure

Burke should be talking to Holland about Cammelleri at the olympics.

How many NHLers were injured during the Olympics this year?

Zetterberg has had back problems on and off for a couple years, and especially this year. Doesn;t really have anything to do with the Olympics.

His initial diagnosis of "day to day" with a herniated disc was hilarious in its optimism.

Yeah, but he rushed it a bit to be able to play at the Olympics.

Hard to imagine he'll be the same player after that operation. I had my microdiscectomy a year ago and still get some residual pain at times.

No offence, but he might be a bit fitter and have access to a bit better medical/re-hab staff than you.

True, but anytime a nerve root gets compressed, it's never the same.

I wouldn't mind a few of the wings prospects. I'd love for a deal to be done before the games start back up

Not familiar with their prospects, who do they have that's interesting?

The kid who was on the WJC canadian team, he's a winger who's a trigger man that reminds me of Jeff Carter a bit. I'd love an A level prospect and a first.

Who wouldn't? But you'd get either/or, tops, not both.

You never know though, when a team has high expectations and a limited window of opprotunity, a GM might panic and make a trade especially if a rival can pick Cammy up. Stranger things have happened....

I highly doubt the Wings would part with Mantha for any rental picks. He's better than most of the players that will go in the top 10 of the 2014 draft.

I also don't think that the Wings are in a standings position to go full-on buyer this year. Unless Holland goes Darryl Sutter in an effort to squeak in, but Holland's status in Detroit is probably too secure for him to worry about missing the playoffs this year.
I do think Cammalleri would be good on a line with Datsyuk though.

I guess it all depends if the wings want to put their playoff streak on the line. They have an older team and might want to make a late push.
If the Flames sign Cammy then trade him and retain his salary, they could probably get more than just Mantha

Would you guys be open to taking a first for next years draft rather than this years draft for Cammy?

yes, but I doubt even the wings trade their first for next year. If they make it a true lottery where every non playoff team has a chance at McDavid, no team will trade their first....but I'd take it!

IMO the Wings won't make a big deal to replace him and just ride it out as they didn't look like a serious contender anyway and dearly need to hold on to every prospect and draft pick as they need to rebuild whether it be on the fly or a complete tear it down rebuild.
