It's official now, no more Zetterberg for Sweden:
“@cmasisak22: Swedish Hockey Federation announces #RedWings Henrik Zetterberg is out of the Olympics, per the official OLY media site.”
“@FriedgeHNIC: Asking if Zetterberg can be replaced: No. Rosters frozen just before tournament began. Sweden goes on with 24.”

Berra starting for Switzerland
Quote:
The Swiss head into the match-up with a 1-0 record after defeating Latvia 1-0 on Wednesday. Jonas Hiller made 21 saves in the victory while Berra acted as his back-up.
While this is Berra's first time representing Switzerland at the Olympics, he has played in multiple international tournaments throughout his career. Last spring, he played a large part in the Swiss' success at the IIHF World Championships, where they captured the silver medal. In four games, he posted a 1.00 GAA and a .967 save percentage.

Yikes, 3 top players in Franzen, Zetterberg, and Henrik Sedin out for Sweden.
What looked like one of the best rosters has taken some hits. They'll probably still contend, but ouch.

Huge save by Pavelec! Looked like with his paddle on a wide open net.
Edit: ha, nevermind it was a goal!
Off the camera in the net.

The Czech's could have won their first game with a competent goalie in net. First they need a real coach as well.

Poop, put big money on the under in the Sweden-Swiss game.
And now Berra is starting.

That's the rule? The hell you say, although I shouldn't be surprised International hockey has dumb rules.

If i'm not mistaken it's the NHL rule as well. Think if Hanzal went and clubbed someone in the head, it didn't magically not happen because a goal was scored earlier. I vaguely remember something like this happening in a Flames around 5 years ago.

Oh Hanzal, your Olympics are done. Healthy Scratch in Game 1, two penalties in the first period of your first game.

From the NHL rulebook
http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26489
Quote:
Any penalties signaled during the period of time between the apparent goal and the next stoppage of play shall be assessed in the normal manner, except when a minor penalty is to be assessed to the team scored upon, and is therefore nullified by the scoring of the goal.

Yeah it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. It should always result in a penalty, or always be nullified (except for majors).
