The Leafs were 6-8-1 last month. The team had a horrible start but finished the month on a high note, with several wins and good performances.
Player: Jiri Hudler (71 ov) - 15 GP, 6 G + 8 A = 14 P, -3, 7 PIM, 2x 1st star, 2x 2nd star
Jiri Hudler has been instrumental for the Toronto Maple Leafs since coming over in a trade from the Florida Panthers. Comparing his stats for the Panthers and his stats for the Maple Leafs:
for FLA: 7 GP, 1 G + 2 A = 3 P, -6, 5 PIM, no star nominations
for TOR: 8 GP, 5 G + 6 A = 11 P, +3, 2 PIM, 2x 1st star, 2x 2nd star
He really found a different gear once he put on a Maple Leafs jersey.
Defenseman: Andrew MacDonald (73 ov) - 15 GP, 2 G + 5 A = 7 P, +5, 7 PIM, 3x 3rd star
Once again, MacDonald led all Leafs defensemen in all aspects of the game. We can count on him in all situations, as he continues to log heavy minutes. Nearly half a point per game and a respectable +5 rating show his value for us.
Unsung: Craig Smith (61 ov) - 8 GP, 1 G + 6 A = 7 P, even, 4 PIM, 2x 3rd star
Craig Smith came over in a trade from San Jose, and he has obviously enjoyed the change of scenery, as he appeared in all 8 Leafs games since then, scoring 7 points. He was scoreless in all 22 games for San Jose this season and didn't play a game for them this month ahead of the trade, so his contributions for Toronto can't be valued highly enough.
Rookie: Tyler Johnson (63 ov) - 15 GP, 3 G + 6 A = 9, +3, 1x 1st star, 1x 2nd star
Could have also nominated Alex Killorn, who had 6 goals and 1 assist last month, but while Killorn racked up his points in just a few good games, Johnson showed more consistency in his scoring. He really stepped up for the Leafs over the last few weeks.
Goalie: Jean-Sebastien Giguere (76 ov) - 11 GP, 5-6-0, 2.59 GAA, .922% svs, 1 SO, 1x 1st star, 1x 2nd star, 2x 3rd star
Despite the recent uptrend, the Leafs had a losing record last month, due to a horrid 0-5-0 start to the month. Weathering the storm was goaltender J.-S. Giguere with solid outings throughout the month. He earned his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Philadelphia.

Player: Kyle Turris 15 GP - 5 G - 9 A for 14 P, 58% average in the face off dot. My top 6 were firing hard all month, all pitching in similar points, some scoring a lot more goals than Turris. But Kyle was solid in the faceoff dot, he moved down to the second line when we acquired Lecavilier half way throug the month and didn't miss a beat still maintaining his PPG clip with reduced minutes.
Defenseman: Christian Ehrhoff - 15 GP - 2 G - 8A for 10 P and +7, Averaged 24 minutes a game. Ehrhoff was steady Eddy for the Sharks on the back end, logging the 2nd most minutes on the team including very important PP and PK. Chipping in with 10 points and staying a +7. Solid effort.
Goalie: Martin Broduer - 15 GP - 9 W - 4 L - 2 OTL, 0.927 save percentage, 2.33 GAA and he chipped in with FOUR assists. Marty is the back bone of this team and not only did he stand on his head and play every game for the past month, with a great winning record, but he also kept the offense going by chipping in more assists in those 15 games than most goalies get in two seasons.
