Hisense TVs??

My TV crapped out and I need a new one. Looking to spend 700.
Have a second gen Apple TV. Not looking for a smart TV at all.

Went to Visions because of a friends discount.
Went in looking at Samsung (mainly due to brand loyalty/happiness with previous TV and computer) or an LG because of what I've heard of the brand.

The sales guy tried pushing a Hisense brand on us. He was very straight up when talking about other TVs specs/pros/cons and didn't feed us any BS. I liked that about him. But...I've never heard of Hisense before today.

The model he was pushing was this 55" one and would bring it down to my price range.

I've never heard of Hisense before. It did look nicer on the walls, but not sure if that was just Visions messing with the settings to sell that brand or not. Anyone own one or can anyone talk about quality vs an LG or Samsung?

Of the above TVs...does anyone have any suggestions?

Then....to totally go in another direction...
I went in wanting LED. Other than the glare, is Plasma better? They had some decent 55 and 60" LG and Samsung models at the same price point as the 47" LED.

Last time I bought a TV was 6 years ago and I spent $1300 on a 40" Samsung. The times have changed and I'm not sure what to do here.

Apparently Hisense is Chinese and is the top brand in China.

Thanks. Too many different opinions on the Hisense when I search online.
Some say it's what LG used to be 5 years ago (relatively unknown here, but big in Korea) and that it's very popular in China. Some say it's just a cheap end and will be crap in 2 years.

I'm playing it on the safe side and just going to buy either the LG or Samsung.
