Default Emile Poirier & Calgary Puck in the media

I wanted to let everyone know that you can listen to Emile Poirier's game tonight. Gatineau is in Cape Breton taking on the Screaming Eagles. The local radio station will be broadcasting the game at http://www.eagle1035.com at 7:00pm AST (5:00pm MST I believe).

Cape Breton's play by play man is aware that CalgaryPuck members have tuned in for the last game, and he thanked them for tuning in on air. He'll likely do the same tonight.

Also if you have any questions about Poirier or the league in general you can tweet them at @CBSE_pbp (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles play by play).

Mods if you feel this better belongs in the back burner forum feel free to move it. I thought this rare opportunity would get buried there.

The game starts at 4:00 MST I believe

Poirier is going into the game 8th in the league in points, in 52 games he has 40 goals and 74 points. Also loads of PIM with 115

Just realized that starting this thread on my iPhone, it autocorrected Emile to Emilie. Is it possible for a mod to fix that?

Thanks.

I think you can edit the title by going "advanced".

Poirier just took a shot awkwardly during the warmup and was down on the ice for a bit. After he got up and promptly left the ice.

That said warmup is almost over (2 mins at the start of this post) hopefully nothing serious. But it did look weird.

Observations from the first period:

Poirier is clearly a very coachable player. He's always where he needs to be. I couldn't just check the right wing to see if he was on the ice, he could have been anywhere. But it was part of the plan (he wasn't playing selfishly) as he was always covered. That said when another player went out of position he was there to cover. Great to see!

He has some jets. He does this weird little hop as he turns them on.

He has good vision but clearly was fighting the puck. His passes were just off, Gus control just wasn't quite there. He never had a good handle on his breakaway. All of Gatineu seems just a bit off handling the puck (not Cape Breton though so it can't be the ice). Probably the insane bus ride to the end of the earth (aka Gatineau to Sydney).

Gatineau's goal came off a play where a penalty should have been called against them. It was blanant and in front of the referee during a partial breakaway.

Cape Breton put some garbage into the net. So it's 3-1 good guys after 1.

I'm behind the Gatineau bench so hopefully I'll get some video next period.

Hope the attendance is better than it looked during the warmup, probably just good ol Capers getting a few drinks in at the pub first!

Attendance isn't great, but better than during the warmup. The team is still recovering from the Durocher/Choules years which were Edmonton Oilers-esque without the big name prospects.

I also love how Hache for Cape Breton gave Dunn on Gatineau a Rock Bottom and Dunn got 2 for holding haha

T@T are you at the game?

I realized you would have seen the crowd in the picture above. Stupid me.

Thoughts on the second.

Poirier started the period with his head in the clouds.

And another person won $10,000 while I'm in my car recharging my phone and posting this.

Poirier assisted the second Gatineau goal. I have video of the replay (was actually fighting with my phone to setup the video when the puck went in.

And someone just won a truck. For Pete sake I missed it all!

Second period had a weird flow. Poirier was less noticeable.

After two periods it's 4-3 good guys.

I was talking to Pat (the play by play guy) during the intermission. He was wondering if anyone heard the CalgaryPuck shout out.

Thoughts on the third period.

Poirier shook off the cobwebs. Looked great creating the play the lead to the fourth goal.

Excellent jump all around. Literally at one point as he hopped over the Eagles goaltender.

Looked far more confident in the third, as did the whole team.

Eagles went ahead 5-4 with 10.3 seconds left in the game despite great back checking by Poirier. He had the jets on, took out his man and the trailer scored on a broken play.

Poirier was jawing with Pellitier on Cape Breton for the final seconds. Woe have had the fight on video if the referee had let them.

In the end the good guys win.

His stutter step when he starts skating to give him the jump is a bit strange, but its clearly working for him.

His first 3 steps are what will set him apart from other players. The stutter step is part of that. Can't really teach that.

Excited about this kid... He brings lots of elements to the team going forward. Size, super-speed, slick hands, grit, and a great shot. Plus he's comfortable playing both wings. Hope he keeps it up and either makes the flames next season or goes to abbotsford for a season of development. Personally, I think it could be a huge benefit for Poirier and gaudreau to play in abbotsford next season. I could really see an influx of young, properly developed talent coming in 2015-2016 with gaudreau, Poirier, this years draft pick, next years draft pick, Wotherspoon, and sieloff all having a good chance of making the flames out of training camp in 2015.
