Pat Seiloff on the mend.
Yikes never heard of this until today from Roger.

Sieloff adds the infection worked into his heart. Very serious side effects. Feels lucky to be getting better. Amazing

Patrick Sieloff says Staph infection has eased. He is working out now. Could not "sweat" for 8 weeks. Yikes. No timeline for skating.#Flames

I have MMA fighter friends that have gone through staph infections, but I don't think it ever got serious enough to spread to the heart for any of them. Even when it wasn't as serious as Sieloff's it was downright miserable for them, and they're tough fellows. He'll be a mentally tougher man come full recovery time.
It sucks too because this is the type of infection/injury that can be prevented through proper sanitation procedures and equipment care. I learned through other people, thankfully never having suffered through one myself. Even if it looks like a dingy, beat up gym, ask what they use to clean the mats with. If they're serious about the health of their staff and trainees they'll know right off the bat or they'll point to someone who does.

He got the infection from an injection he received in pre-season, right? That's f'n brutal on the part of the Flames medical people.
He's missed half a season because of this and as a first-year pro these are huge games for his development.
I really hope he recovers and lives up to his promise. He's my favourite Flames defensive prospect.

staph infection of the heart is just about the worst ailment I've ever heard of, maybe not worse than trigeminal neuralgia but holy hell that sounds awful.

This happened to my mother a few years back. It took her nearly 18 months to fully recover, and she was in excellent shape for a woman in her mid 50's.
Scary for Patrick. Hopefully his fitness and youth allow him to bounce back quickly.

IIRC, Feaster said it was an injection he got last season when he was injured in Windsor.

This will basically cost him an entire season. At the age of 19, that is devastating, and quite possibly could cost him an NHL career.
Let's hope he can get all the way back.

I hate to say it, but I think Seiloff is done as a NHL prospect. Hope he gets back to where he can just continue to have a regular life and go out for a pleasure skate here and there. Just flat out horrible luck.

Did I read that wrong? Seiloff said the staph infection affected the tissues of his heart, right? These staph infections are serious enough when localized, but when they become blood borne they can become fatal. He obviously dodged a bullet. He's been restricted from activity and there are no plans for him to resume skating. Seems to indicate something very serious. That's a lost season as a result of a very serious health issue. What did I get wrong?

Believe the Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker had a similar issue this year (bunch of players on their team got staph infection).
It has ended (or at least contributed to the ending) of some careers though: http://www.tampabay.com/sports/footb...nguish/2138098
