Default 2014 Ryder Cup

Day one four ball starts in a couple hours. The Ryder Cup and the Masters are the two tournaments I look forward to the most, but the Ryder Cup is clearly the biggest golf tournament internationally speaking. Its always difficult to catch a lot of live coverage when its on the European rotation, but still going to stay up as much as possible this weekend.

Not really cheering for either team, but I always like seeing the home team do well. As far as the teams, I found it odd that Watson went with 3 picks that were all on the losing/choking team 2 years ago.

Found the crowds particularly annoying at Medinah two years ago. Curious to see how the Scots respond.

Thanks to a cold that has kept me up for part of the night, I got to watch some of the early matches.

So far so good. I think that USA might play the underdog card well this time. I normally am a European supporter (anti-Tiger woods really) but would like to see the USA win without Tiger...

TSN GO still not an option with Shaw customers, so no streaming the ryder cup via tsn at work. So annoying.

The last time the US won was without Tiger

I really like this US team which is stacked. The Europeans will have to play really well.

Both teams are good, but the Europeans are the stronger of the two on paper. Sergio and Mcilroy going down this morning was pretty huge.

edit- huge finish by Sergio and Mcilroy to get the half point. Turning into a rough afternoon for the Americans.

Probably a mistake not to have played Speith and Reed again in the afternoon. I get that they are Ryder Cup rookies but they won convincingly, need to play the guys that are playing the best.

And Keegan Bradley is one twitchy dude...and he was getting worse as their match went on.

Another year another disaster. It's amazing how guys like Furyk and Kuchar can't make 5 footers in this competition and the Euros can make 20 footers.

Fowler and Walker are gassed, can't send those two guys out 4 sessions in a row, especially after all 3 previous matches were stressful halved matches.

Why not send out Phil with Webb or some other combination?

still early in the day.

I'm surprised by Speith and Reed. I still can't believe Reed is on the team, but they are more than holding their own. 2 wins thus far and leading in their 3rd match. Hopefully Kaymer heats up and brings this one back for Europe.

big lead for Europe heading into the singles matches. US needs to do what Europe did 2 years ago in the singles.

I'll be interested to see the lineups tomorrow. You have to think the US puts their strongest players first out of the gate. Curious who those will be. Europe on the other hand, may want to save some of their strongest in case things get hairy.

Sadly, I have to write a paper tonight and tomorrow and won't be able to watch a whole lot of it.

I was hoping these two guys would battle it out hard today based on the way the Majors went this year. Not looking like much of a match just yet. Mcilroy is undoubtedly the best in the world.

Hate to say it cause they played well this week, but pretty big chokes by Mahan and Speith. Ruined any chance of Sunday drama. Had they held on, we would be looking at 12-11 right now.

And Bubba consistently sucks at the Ryder Cup

It amazes me the Americans can fold under pressure because I don't think there has been any on them for several Ryder Cups now. Europeans are big favourites every time out. Great shot by Donaldson to win the Cup too.

There it is. It's not an official victory until Garcia beats Furyk. It happens every time and is a microcosm of why Europe always wins.

It's almost a sure thing with Furyk. One of the worst closers in golf.

that was a beating.

I wish they had some money on the line for this. If i'm Fed Ex, I get much better bang for the buck by putting $12 million up every 2 years, 1 million for each winner, than I do the Fed Ex playoffs.

Or $12 million for each of the Ryder and President's cup. (hell, add another million each for up to 3 coaches on either side)

A lot of drama coming from the US team wrap up press conference. A lot of throwing Tom Watson under the bus, mostly by Lefty. Wish I had watched it, but Im sure it will discussed in length in the coming days.

Lefty's a sulk.

It's clear that this generation led by Tiger and Phil are not suited for team play, unlike the previous generation with Couples, Love III, Stewart, Azinger et al..A generation is 20 years right? Since Langer missed that putt at "The War on the Shore" The Euros are 8 and 3. How can the Euros, a bunch of guys from a bunch of countries that speak a bunch of languages be a tighter group then Americans? Heck I think 12 Canadians could beat that American team this weekend the way they choked.

The new generation needs to have that hatred for the Europeans. At the moment "we don't hate them as much as they hate us" That's got to change. As mentioned earlier, this morning the crowd was heckling Reed like the Americans used to heckle Monty and the guy on SkySports predicted a 12-0 victory today. Losing has to hurt the Americans enough for them to care. The three American rookies Spieth, Reed and Walker contributed nearly half of the points for the U.S. team. That's a good sign I guess.

The US papers need to rip this team tomorrow morning.
