Sam Bennett
So if the season ended with today's standings and we were to draft Bennett, do you think we are looking at a player ready to jump into the nhl next year? How high do you think his ceiling is? I haven't seen much of him aside from the odd highlight.

His ceiling is a top 6 center, not much different than Reinhart. I would guess Bennett plays another year in junior and would probably make the NHL jump in 15-16, but a lot of people said that about Monahan, so you never really know.
Talent level he seems to be at the same level if not slightly higher than Monahan, but more offensive.

Depends on how hard he trains in the off season. Like someone said about Monahan, he wasn't expected to play, but he came into camp in NHL shape.
He seems to have the skill, so I can't see why not.

I don't think our draft pick from this year should be playing in the NHL next year unless it's an absolute slam dunk that he needs to be there.

Monahan was often talked about as the most NHL-ready prospect last year (partly because he was older), so him sticking around wasn't the biggest surprise. I haven't really heard anything like that about Bennett.
Either way I don't really think it should play a role in whether one drafts him or not.

The more I read about him and watch hilights, the more I want to draft him ahead of Ekblad and Reinhart.

Sam Bennett seems to have a lot in common playing style wise with Matt Duchense despite not playing the same position. If we get that calibre of guy with him, it will be a very successful pick.

If we got Bennett great, but Burke will get Ekblad in a deal for Buffalo's first just to show us all he's still "got it"

Every time I see Ekblad play I drool at the thought of him patrolling the blue line next season. As far as NHL-ready prospects in the top 5 I think Ekblad might be the closest – physically at least.

I would be cool with Bennett, I remember watching a bunch of highlights of his back at the beginning of the year when we were looking at drafting around 5th-7th and he was ranked in that range. But as the season goes on, I really, really want us to get Ekblad for two reasons:
1) He's gonna be good.
2) Keeps him out of Edmonton.
I can't tell which is more important to me.

Agreed, unless we draft Ekblad, I don't want to see our pick in the NHL next year.

I want any of our drafts that are ready to be in the NHL next year to be in the NHL next year, and that has nothing to do with what year they were drafted. Ready is ready, not ready is not ready.

I wonder if there is still any bad blood over the Vanek offer sheet? Doubt it with Regier gone.

I see Bennett as a good young player but at this point he's only a consolation prize to Ekblad and Reinhart

they'd be too busy frantically flipping through the hockey news and searching through youtube with the same look on their faces as we used to have when the teacher asked us to hand in the homework that we couldn't bother doing.

Bennett would be great for the future of this team but he's definitely my third choice.
1. Ekblad, 2. Renihart
Ekblad most likely slots into the top 6 next year. Reinhart or Bennett would have to beat out one of Stajan, Monahan, or Backlund.
