Not to worry, Olympic super-prospect Olli Maatta will carry them to the promised land.

Rabble rabble rabble, Jankowski, Feaster. Pitchforks etc.

so now these owners with injured players from the olympics have to pay them anyway. I'd be kinda pissed too.

Injuries suck, but using them as an anti-Olympics argument is silly - there would be just as many injuries in a world cup style tournament

I'll predict Wideman to the pens instead of Butler.

not using it as anti-olympics but NHL owners DO take a risk with zero chance of compensation. World cup could offer some.

Could offer some? If there was a World Cup, Owners would make millions, as would players.

I love the Olympics and injuries will happen in any kind of tournament, but maybe the IOC should give up its pseudo-integrity stance and share some profits with the NHL and it's players. Seems like an easy solution.

I could see the penguins targeting someone like wideman only if the flames eat part of his cap hit. If it means the flames could get a decent prospect in return, I think it would be worth it. The flames will likely have lots of cap room for the next couple years so it should be ok. The penguins might not be able to keep both Orpik and niskanen at the end of the year so there might be room for a guy like wideman going forward.

Only problem is that they have lots of good up and coming defencemen in their system so they might just choose to develop them and just give Maata a more prominent role for the rest of the season... He seems to be better and better every game.

No can do. There are too many sports in the olympics. Give in to the NHL, and they have to start fighting with soccer, basketball, handball, volleyball...

With Martin and Letang out I could see something like this happening. Pens need a PP quarterback and Wideman would fit the bill.

If Wideman was an upcoming free agent sure, but I am not sure they can afford another big dollar contract

Pretty sure all players were insured by Hockey Canada or the IOC.
