Default Saskatoon Kid throws Ott out of the faceoff

Quote:
Braden Neinaber is an 8 year old from Saskatoon, Sask., and completely hockey obsessed. He also has Langerhans cell histiocytosis, a rare disease in which the body produces too many white blood cells, leading to a number of health problems and, in some cases, it can be fatal.

But it was a moment before the Capitals’ matinee game against the Buffalo Sabres in D.C. that made Braden Neinaber pretty much the fan of the season so far. He participated in the ceremonial puck drop between Alex Ovechkin of the Capitals and Steve Ott of the Buffalo Sabres, one of the most hated players in the League.

So he did what any true fan would do: He threw Ott out of the ceremonial faceoff, to the delight of the home crowd.
Braden got to spend the day with the Caps in practice, scored on his hero Holtby who he followed as a Blade, and even got in a tilt and came out on top. Looks like the Caps have a couple of class acts on their team.

Videos in the link.

Loved Ott's reaction. Obviously scripted but still awesome. Would love to see the Flames sign Ott for grit and leadership.

Hah, Ott loved it too. That kid wins. You think it was scripted? When would he have had time to set it up with Ott?

I'm sure the teams have PR people that put these things together. It would take two minutes during warm up to have Ott come over and get the low down that the kid is going to toss him. This doesn't take 10 dress rehearsals.

It may look like he was playing along, but Ott actually slashed the kid.

It's actually really cool that they did this though. As much as Ott seems like a wiener during the game, I've heard nothing but good things about him off the ice (or, on the ice in this case).

Kind of looks like Ott was talking to him before the faceoff, and the kid nodded a couple times. Who knows - either way, it was great.

Steve Ott is the captain? No wonder why they suck.

...that's like saying we suck because Giordano is our Captain.

Yeah, Gio is an overall better player - but they're both captains for the same reasons. Complete team player and willing to do whatever they can to help the team.

I'd love to see Ott sign in Calgary this summer.

Awesome.

You can clearly see Ott and the kid chatting through the whole thing, wonder if it was Ott's idea to get the kid to toss him from the faceoff.

I thought it was great, and Ott was really good a about it. As were the rest of the Caps throughout the day.

This is what I really like about NHL hockey players, they're not quite as manufactured and rep driven as NBA and NFL and especially MLB players.

The sad thing is Holtby was actually trying to stop the puck.

he'd fit in on our team size wise and we could use his offense!

So awesome, I love these stories. What a cute kid, and the Caps certainly made him feel welcome and included, must have been an extraordinary day for Braden.

I was actually thinking about Ott last week and how he would be a perfect signing for the Flames going forward.

So was I. He would be a great offseason signing for the Flames.

Would have been fun to think of iggy and otter sharing a dressing room and wearing the same coloured uni's......
