I liked the Byron/Monahan/Colborne line. Colborne seemed to be more poised with the puck & had the confidence to use those million-dollar hands he's got.

Monahan plays the simplest game imaginable, but on a very high level. He'll never look as explosive or dynamic as the Mackinnons or Nichushkins from his draft year, but can sure pick a corner and make a smart play. Timely goals and good decision making. He's not a franchise player, but he's the kind of player you need to win games.

Backlund looks great with the 'A'. Well-deserved after 5 weeks of solid play. He seems to have silenced the hundreds of haters on this board, at least temporarily. They all seem to have moved on to dissing Jankowski in every thread instead of Backlund.

Interesting to see how long Backlund holds onto the A. That is, does Cammy get it back when he returns?

I like how well Monahan and Colbourne switched responsibilities between the two zones, seemed to work out very well. Not much to dislike about Byron, works his tail off and his speed is fantastic.

Glad to see the young players lead the way.

I'm sure Cammalleri will get the A back, but once he is traded I would think that Backlund has established himself as a leader on the team.

I agree that the new format suits better the current state of the team.

Also, it is great that Backlund has improved to make it that we don't necessarily need to keep a veteran center in top 6 (Stajan or his replacement).
