Let's play Keep or Dump
Keep:
- Monahan
- Baertschi
- Backlund
- Gio
- Brodie
- Smid
- Hudler
- Bouma
- Colborne
- Russell
Dump:
- Stempniak
- Cammalleri
- David Jones
- Galiardi
- Stajan
- Butler
- SOB
- Breen (waivers, come back in a year or two and see if improved)
Undecided:
- Byron (has been dang good lately but super small, need room for Gaudreau)
- Hartley (has the team playing with good effort but seems to mismanage some of the younger players and make questionable lineup decisions)
- Wideman
- Smith
- Mcgrattan (would prefer Ferland)
Who'd I forget?
Bring up the young guys already and drop the dead weight.

Keep monahan, Hudler, colborn and Sven (unless we get a great offer for him. Gio should be here long term unless we get a great off on him too

I can't disagree with any of those. I had thought earlier in the year that they'd want to re-up Stempniak but I'm not so sure now.

Keep:
- Monahan (best prospect we have)
- Baertschi (needs to work on his game obviously but he's got a high upside)
- Backlund (I still think he can be a solid 2nd line centre)
- Brodie (best young d-man we have)
- Smid (good bottom pairing guy)
- Hudler (need someone to score, seems like a good leader and team player)
- Bouma (love his grit and energy)
- Colborne (has been playing well lately, coming into his own. Could be a solid 3rd liner)
- McGrattan (if we're gonna carry an enforcer it might as well be him)
- Ramo (can carry the load til Ortio or Gillies takes over)
- Galliardi (fills a 3rd/4th line role fine)
Dump:
- Hartley (don't think he's the guy to lead the youth)
- Stempniak ( should be able to get something decent for him)
- Cammalleri ( our best shot at getting a 1st or solid prospect)
- David Jones (bad contract, poor player)
- Stajan (playing well, could snag a second or decent prospect from a playoff bound team)
- Butler (please please please let this be the year we unload this guy)
- SOB (easily replaceable)
- Breen (have not been impressed by his play at all)
- Wideman (should be able to get something decent for him)
- Byron (he's been playing well as of late, however if he can be packaged up for a deal then I'm good with that)
- Smith (replaced by Sieloff or Wotherspoon)
- Berra (he has been playing ok but his positioning really worries me and I just don't see much more of an upside to him)
- Russell (just a case of sell high)
Undecided:
- Giordano (if he can get an unreal return then I think you gotta look at moving him)

I might be in the minority, but I wouldn't mind moving Russell at the trade deadline.

I'd rather roll the dice and see what we could get if we dump Baertschi

"dump" is not a term I would use when discussing a trade involving Baertschi..

So I might be in the minority here, but I think we should consider packaging Baertschi, Gaudreau and Gillies in a deal at the deadline..

Dump seems a little harsh for some of the guys so I moved it into 3 categories, dump for guys that should be gone, keep for guys to keep and moveable for guys that should be moved if a decent deal comes up. Moveable guys also include some that I don't see the value we would get back worth moving them (ie Smith/Byron). For the keep guys to be moved it should be a unbelievable deal because I don't see anyone (maybe Monahan) that is untouchable on this team.
Dump:
Berra
Ramo
MacDonald
SOB
Butler
Wideman
Stempniak
Cammy
Stajan
Galiardi
McGrattan
D. Jones
Breen
Movable:
Backlund
Glencross
Russell
Smith
Smid
Hudler
Byron
Keep:
Gio
Brodie
Monahan
Baertschi
Colborne
Bouma
I obviously can't see us dealing all of the guys on the dump list but I think with some you just get rid of for whatever as they bring little to nothing to the team and some others (Cammy, Stemp, Stajan) you move because they have value and the pieces they bring in are more valuable to the rebuild than they are.

I'd put a vote in keep Stempniak. He's the type of veteran you want around a rebuild and younger players. He plays a committed and complete game. He's very versatile, can play in all situations, he has a great attitude, sticks up for his team mates and doesn't pout or complain.
I'll go to say he'll be more valuable to the culture of a rebuilding club that whatever we'd get back for him (2nd rounder).

I think you've got to keep McGrattan; I don't think it'll be Ferland's job to be the number one enforcer on the team...He's got potential to bring other aspects to the team-scoring. And even though he's big, he's does not have #1 enforcer size in my opinion.
I'd keep Hartley; at least he seems like a well-prepared guy, and he does have the guys working hard.
Still like to see Byron play more and Wideman may not be moveable.
I agree with much of your list though.

To me it's easy.
Anyone older than Backlund = Tradeable.
Anyone younger than Backlund = Keep
Some players like Gio would be harder to justify dealing, but if someone was stupid and offered a 1st + a prospect like Sven or Poirier, and another decent player more in the Sieloff category then you'd have to look at it.
Pretty much everyone else though can go for the right price.
I would keep both Berra and Ramo. They are starting to turn the corner and are becoming solid NHL calibre goalies. Not necessarily starters down the road, but not bad regardless. To me, they are good enough where you don't need to address it in the next year or two.
