Slovaks scored 9 goals and had a strong game against Germany, especially Poirier's linemate Martin Reway and 2013 1st round pick Marko Dano. Will be interesting to see how Gillies competes tonight.

Not a busy first for Gillies, but he still had to make a couple of big saves.

The US capitalizes on its PP opportunities, and pots one with just a second left on the clock to take a 2-0 lead to the intermission.

Someone on the US bench can be heard saying "they ain't even seen our best yet, fellas" as they head to the room.

All power plays in the USA-Slovakia game.

The States goes 3 for 3 on the PP to take a 3-0 lead. Then, the Slovaks bang in a couple of rebounds on their own PPs. Gillies had trouble controlling the puck on the second goal, otherwise, he's been solid.

The US goes into the third with over a minute left on their 4th PP of the game.

Finally some 5-on-5 goals in the third, and Team USA wins 6-3. They were already up 6-2 when Slovakia scored a late one on a shot that somehow squeaked between Gillies' pads.

The US plays Germany tomorrow, so if there's a game where Gillies might get a rest, it'll likely be that one.

Now, an hour and a half wait for Canada's game.

The Olympic jerseys?
There are differences between World Juniors and Olympics, they always wear different jerseys. Rules, etc.

Drouin wussed out of a hit in the corner giving the Czechs a scoring chance.

Now the Czechs are up 1-0 after chaos in front of the net

4 red jerseys within 5 feet of the blue paint and no one plays the man, all just whacking away at the puck.

Drouin looks scared to take hits out there. Which is understandable considering he is coming back from a concussion but a concern for Canada if he continues to play that way.

The bounces on these boards are really crazy. Noticed it a lot in the US-Slovakia game and already early on here.
