Inexplicable driving habits
Half split from the Grinds my Gears thread, and half stolen from Beyond (including the thread title)

Caution: Reading this thread will probably give you road rage. Despite the fact that you're sitting in your office or on your couch.
I'll start
People who stop in merge lanes.
People who can't be bothered to brush snow off their rear window or taillights!

People that can't understand that their daytime running light do not turn on their rear tail lights, people that don't turn on their head light in poor visibility situations.

People that only accelerate to 60 in the 1 km stretch of on-ramp to a 100 or 110 highway.
People that believe turning on their signal light automatically entitles them to move in that direction.

This ESPECIALLY happens in winter time.
I'm driving down a main road in the right hand lane and someone is waiting on the right of me at an intersection to get on the main road.
Instead of waiting until I pass - so they can calmly turn into the lane I'm on, they instead inexplicably choose to gun it and try to get in in front of me... but they seem to forget EVERY time that it's icy out and now their tires are spinning like mad. So now they are on the verge of completely cutting me off after slowly creeping into my lane, and I now have push the brakes so I don't rear end them.
BUT WAIT - THERE'S MORE!
Instead of staying in the lane they cut me off in... all of them must be thinking: "Oh Sh*t, I just cut someone off - I better turn really quickly into the lane to my left so they don't get mad at me"
Half the time, they end up cutting of someone in the left hand lane and going 30 over to make up for it. The other half have no idea there were two lanes to begin with.

I had frustration driving in to work today.
Look people, if the roads arent great I dont care if you have a 4x4, try not mashing the gas like a moron and then wondering why you're not getting anywhere.
I had to wait 2 lights to turn left because the idiot in the BMW in front of me couldnt figure out why the pedal on the right wasnt getting him through the intersection faster...

Every day on Glenmore at 52nd street I see truck drivers blowing through left turns after the green arrow has ended. Today was the worst - solid red and Glenmore had started moving and some dork truck driver makes the turn. What are you thinking!?

You should see the intersection on WB 114 at Barlow, where truckers exiting the Flying J try to get onto Deerfoot. Forget every day, it's EVERY LIGHT you have an 18 wheeler turning, completely ignoring the turn light that has looooooong past turned red.
What are you gonna do tho? Ram the semi? I finger them vigorously (insert XXX joke) and it makes me feel a little better, but at the end of the day there's f-all you can do.

They do it because they basically have to. I tend to cut most truckers a lot of slack in the city.

People in Calgary really need to learn how to navigate a traffic circle properly. I honestly have yet to see one person do it properly. They don't ever signal when they're in one, and they always exit the wrong lane. If you are exiting from the inner lane, stick to the left lane when exiting, don't cut over to the right! I almost got num-chuked by some doofus because he cut in like that. Good thing I have no expectations of Calgarian drivers, so I anticpated he would do that and slowed down.

And why do people always speed up when you come up beside them? Is there some kind of inherent competitiveness in all of us that deep down screams "THOU SHALL NOT PASS" when another motorist seems to be moving a little quicker beside you?
I usually pull up beside someone I want to get ahead of, do the same speed until a gap in front of them opens up, gun it and cut them off.

As I drive a BMW, the difference in behavior towards me as compared to when I drove my Toyota is extremely noticeable.
I've had more people cut me off, tailgate, refuse to let me merge (even on a merge sign), try to race me at lights, brake check me, speed up to close gaps, and roll down their windows to yell at me in 1 year of driving my BMW, than the previous 9 years of driving my Toyota. I drive exactly the same way in both cars. In fact, I drove my Toyota more aggressively, since it was auto, and i'm still perfecting my manual skill in my BMW.
Friends that have borrowed my car have always commented how everyone else drives like a complete ass around the BMW.
I wonder when all this unnecessary BMW hate will die down.

I've said it many times and I will say it again- idiots at 4 way stops drive me nuts- the rules are so simple. If you have the bloody right of way, then just go and don't wave someone through. Just follow the rules and everyone will be happy. Every scenario is accounted for in the rules. First to the stop, first to leave. If its a tie, yield to the right. What is so confusing??

Big trucks can't stop on a dime. When the light turns yellow, they have to keep going if they can't stop the front of the truck behind the line. However, it's the BACK end of the trailer that has to clear the intersection. Since they are turning, they can't go quickly, like most other vehicles can. It's not really surprising that the other direction is sometimes green for a few seconds before the truck clears the intersection. That very rarely means that the truck driver ran the red light.
Some of you should try to drive a long vehicle before to criticize how they drive. Some things seem weird, but are done simply out of necessity.
It isn't like trucks are the only people that try to turn left way after the light turns, either.
