I have nothing to add, other than to say, when my hot water heater dies, I am getting a tankless. If for no other reason than it will more than double my available space in my laundry room due to the current position of the hot water tank.

That's what I thought. We have family here so we can get by for a few days.... Hoping someone can come boxing day.

No plumber will be coming to your house on boxing day for any large savings over tonight, but that's just a guess. The chances of getting someone is likely much higher though.

Any reason you couldn't do it yourself? ( I have no idea how hard it is, watching a video on youtube right now!)

Is Lowes still open? When my tank went, my cousin who is a plumber was going to fix it, and there ended up being a delay. My "plan B" was to buy a 120 volt 12 gallon electric tank and put it inline using the hot and cold lines fron the clothes washing machine. The key would be to sut off both valves to your current hot.

Not enough capacity for more than a 7 minute shower per hour, but better than nothing. At a cost of $250, might be less than the premiuim of getting a plumber in before Friday.

Having said that, I had tossed around the idea of a hot water tank for the garage, so the $250 wasn't all going to waste.

Mine went Xmas Eve last year. I picked up another from Home Depot and took care of it myself. You need to make sure you have a similar model with everything in the same place so you don't need to thread a gas line.

I would also suggest that anyone needing to replace a tank and who isn't handy, wait and pay a plumber to install a tankless in-line water heater.

Probably because he's not a plumber? Watching a YouTube isn't going to make you a plumber.

I could replace my hot water tank, assuming it was the same model.

Anything else, not a chance. That's why I asked.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I guess I have a very non standard (power vent, made by rando-company) that's making it hard for anyone to source before the 27th when their suppliers reopen

So it's looking like we'll be spending Christmas with the inlaws... boo!

Merry Christmas everyone, I hope you guys have a better one than me!
