Default Fireside Chat Interview: Cale Hulse

The second in our series of Old Flame interviews will be with former Flames defenceman Cale Hulse.

Hulse was traded from the Devils to the Calgary Flames with Tommy Albelin and Jocelyn Lemieux for Phil Housley and Dan Keczmer on February 26, 1996. He played here until 2000 and then had a second short stint with the Flames in 2006.

Are there any burning questions you have for Cale? Anything you've wanted to know about his career, life as an NHL player (or post NHL), or for a great road story? Post your questions here, on our website, Facebook, Twitter or Google+ community and we'll try to ask as many as we can.

Please ask him what it was like going to EP Scarlett high school, and if he feels a sense of pride knowing that he made it on to our wall of fame and Dany heatley didn't. (True story)

Thanks man. I am enjoying doing the interviews as well. It's cool to talk to these guys.

If anyone here personally knows any Flames alumni guys who still like to talk hockey PM me - we'd love to get them on the show.

For sure. Also, you should seriously throw my question in if you have the time, there's a bunch of Scarlet alum on CP, it'd be cool to hear what he thinks, if he ever went back and saw the wall of fame, etc.

If we get time, I will for sure. As a Beaverbrook grad, I had no idea you had a Wall of Fame. That's cool, and could make an interesting story.

since he played in the young gun era and we're starting the young guns 2.0 this season, I'd be interested to hear his thoughts on going through that experience. Maybe what he took away from it, what he would have done differently and all that jazz. If he has been following the flames at all this season, maybe some comparisons and contrasts.

Also, with his two stints in Calgary; One when the Flames were pretty close to irrelevant and the second during a time when the Flames were the hottest ticket in town coming out of the lockout (one year later, but still).

It'd be cool to hear the perspective of a player who experienced being in this city during the lowest popularity era, leaving, and then coming back during one of it's highest popularity eras. If you could get comments on being out around town, the difference in the buzz at the arena on game days and during the games, the amount of media around the team during the two eras, etc.

I'm sure Fleury would be down. Maybe hit him up on Twitter or his website and sell yourself to him. He may say no, but it can't hurt to try, and if you get him, it'd be a huge deal for you guys.

Thanks for the tip. We've already had some communication with Theo's people. Keep your fingers crossed.

I've always wondered what goes through a player's mind when they suit up against their hometown team (ex - Phaneuf against the Oilers). I've never heard a player talk about this...though I don't listen to many lengthy interviews either.

Almost jokingly, I'd be curious what it's like to be called Mr. Gena Lee Nolin.

Cale Hulse was signing autographs in the Coyotes tent during the WM Phoenix Open last weekend in Phoenix. That was pretty cool.

Not sure I'll be asking him that...at least not on the air.

ask him who is the best NHL player to go through Lake Bonavista minor hockey:

Craig Adams
Brad Isbister
or Cale Hulse

(off the top of my head, that's all I can remember)

question 2:

He was a pretty good fighter when he wanted to be and had a fearsome rep coming out of junior. He also was one of the guys who dropped the gloves with a then prime Eric Lindros, and Lindros got the better of him. We don't see superstars drop the gloves very often, so ask him what it was like fighting Lindros and how he thinks Lindros would have measured up vs some of the other guys that Hulse fought (Buchberger, O. Nolan, B. May)

3. Hulse was on the squad in 96/97, during the famous Sasha Lakovic over the glass vs the Oilers fans incident. See if we can get his take on what happened, what was said in the locker room, and how the guys on the team responded to the coach getting beer dumped on him.

Any general comments on being a Calgary kid and playing for the Flames? Tips for Joe Colbourne, etc

Did your buddy also play for the U of C Dino's hockey team?
