Predict Burkes next moves
I'm going to say right after the trade freeze we see one of Cammalleri, Stajan, or Stempniak gone for some nice picks.
I predict he doesn't find a 'suitable' GM for awhile and performs active GM duties for quite awhile.

Baertschi as the main piece in a trade for a 20 goal guy who can throw.

That would be amazing to see how fast his stock has fallen to that level ie Sven for Wayne Simmonds?

I really think Ramo and Berra are coming along well, but I suspect that Burke targets a goalie. I have a feeling that Burke wants someone proven or a top young goalie.

Complete guess: I'll say Breen gets put on waivers.

It's almost noon, so my guess is he'll have lunch
In all seriousness I think he's going to continue evaluating the team, if neither of Berra or ramo start to show signs of being a capable #1 I could see him bringing up ortio and if that fails he'll try to acquire a starter

When you think about it, we will likely be moving prospects to get tougher if that has to happen in a hurry.
No team is going to trade nhl ready players who are big and tough in a deal for UFAs, those teams are loading up for playoffs and want to deal futures.
The only ways to get tougher/bigger are to deal current nhl players who offer term and value upgrades which the flames have very few of, to draft or trade for futures and wait, which Burke seems to be too impatient for, or to deal picks and prospects to other teams content to stockpile assets for their players or nhl ready prospects with toughness/size.

As much as I don't really trust Burke, I'm not sold he's going to jettison Baertschi so soon.
It's like a coach in the final game/scrimmage before final cuts. The players that they rag on and spend more time on, are probably the guys that are going to make the team, while the guys they ignore are going to be the guys who are cut. You don't invest time (even if it is tough love) and effort into a guy that you're going to get rid of or cut.
I think sending Sven to Abbotsford is more about we really need to get this kid back on track and lets do that in the best possible place. If Burke was going to dangle him I'd think that he'd stay with the big club in the Press box for a few more games.
My gut says Stajan and/or Cammalleri are gone for 2nd or first or another reclamation project like Colbourne. I also think one of Hanowski, Agonostio, Cundari <sp?> are going to be swamped out too.
I just pray he doesn't touch Knight or Grandlund.

I wonder if Feaster really is friends with Burke.
In some ways, Feaster was set up to lose. There was no determination to tank, but there was only enough talent to limp along, winning every other game or so. Now, Burke can make changes without having to take the blame for a bad season. That will be put on Feaster.
I knew when Burke started commenting on Baertschi's lack of commitment, that Sven's days were numbered in Calgary. I could see Baertschi and Stempniak being packaged for some return.

Trade wise, I think the writing is one the wall for all UFA's and some others that Burke does not see as a long term fit. I really don't see any of the UFA's being re-signed now.
Just really hoping Hudler is kept as Gaudreaus placeholder.
All bets are off now as to who stays on the Flames. I don't even think guys like Glencross are safe now.
Maybe Burkes first move will be to simply hire the new GM and let him sort out the trades. Or, he has a couple already lined up and will pull the trigger as soon as his trade freeze is done.

I could totally see him doing this trade. Bigger, more physical guy (though surprisingly only 183lb) but still young enough at 25

He will go after a decent but not great, younger but not young, physical player almost immediately. Most of us will be shocked and dismayed at what he gives up but we'll like the player he gets

I'd love for Burke to hire Mike Keenan as GM. In his first trade, he could bring in Brian Noonan.
