Default Leafs looking for a centre

rotoworld.com

Toronto is trying to get by without centers Tyler Bozak (upper body) and Dave Bolland (ankle). It's not clear who Nonis might get, but his search is complicated by the fact that there's not many teams that would call themselves sellers in early December.

Stajan? Cammalleri? Maybe Backland too - but I hope not.

Cammalleri for their first makes sense. Or Stajan for a second and a prospect.

Backlund would make a lot of sense for the Leafs. I have no idea what they would give up and if it would be worth it for the flames?

Stajan also would make sense and i think they could get a 2nd for him from the leafs. Would the Leafs want him back though?

I would rather keep backlund and unload stajan. Stajan is great for us right now but when we are actually competitive again backlund will probably be the same player stajan is now. Where As stajan will be on thedecline

If the Leafs are desperate enough, will they trade 1st for Stajan and 4th (or 3rd)?

The first might be a ~20th pick, so not that great.

Hey we have a really big tall centre we acquired in a trade this year... Maybe the Leafs will take him for a 2nd rounder.

I guarantee they're not that desperate. Keep in mind they'll be getting Bozak & Bolland back at some point... Once they're back Stajan would be surplus to requirements, and giving up their 1st for a very short-term replacement centre would be pretty bad management. I hope they do it!

A Backlund for Gardiner deal would make a lot of sense, but I 'd prefer to keep Backs.

I bet Nonis is kicking himself for trading Big Joe for a 4th. Typical Sod's law. D'oh!!

He might be feeling its unfortunate that there was no room for Joe on the roster after camp given the injuries, but he's not kicking himself for making that trade. He was losing Joe guaranteed once Joe got out performed by others on the Leafs roster. Joe had to clear the waiver wire once he failed to make the Leafs NHL squad! so it was either lose him for nothing or make a trade.

Gotta think it's impossible for Stajan to net us a first rounder. But then again the Sabres were able to get a first in dealing Paul Gaustad; the way Stajan has been playing shouldn't his value be around there?

It just might be for a team that is in the hunt. Apparently Chi-town is looking for a depth center. Stajan knows the 3rd line role + PK and plays it well enough for a team like Chicago to considering letting a 1st go, especially if they keep their position.

Stajan for Fredrik Gauthier. Leaf picked him 21st overall last year and he has only 23 pts in 29 games this year. ie not a terrific year but made the selection to the WJC team

Something around Backlund for Gardiner? Leafs send Liles and the Flames send Butler or SOB back to even out the value?

The Leafs should just stick with what they've got. Holland had a good game tonight and looks to be as good as Colbourne (maybe even better, seems like he has some skill) No point bringing in another C because some scrub isn't going to be able to save this team. Just ride out the storm is what they should do.

Do Toronto fans generally believe their team is better than their record, worse than their record or right where they should be?

When I watch them I can't believe they're a playoff team. The get outplayed badly very often and yet come away with a win. I'm not trying to be facetious, but I don't buy the hype that they are a playoff team or even have anyone in their future to get them there. I see them going on a long downswing here as you just can't get outplayed that often and end up with points. It will even out at some point
