Thought Stajan could have been a star as this was one of his best efforts in some time. It will definitely be interesting to see if this team is interested in retaining his services or if they decide to move on without him.

I agree with the sentiment of wondering what this team can do when all healthy, but I think most teams wonder the same thing.

Well done

I personally think he'll be one of the UFAs who stay. He's having a kid and is pretty settled in Calgary so might have more incentive to re-sign for less than market value. He's shown good leadership so far and seems to have found a new attitude, getting all fiesty like he did in LA. Playing first line minutes again as well with lesser chance of being doghoused.

Stajan definitely played well last night. Heck, a lot of players played really well. Lots to choose from for the stars and Mr. Clutch last night.

I'm on the fence about this. I personally think Stajan being re-signed has more to do with how Colborne and Monahan progress from now until the trade deadline. If the 2 youngsters show they are ready for top 6 minutes every night and don't need to be sheltered then you have to trade Stajan as he is only in the way. If they aren't ready for that than Stajan is a nice stop gap until they are ready.

What I am worried about is the Flames falling into what I refer to as "the trap". The Flames have done it before, where they hold onto players for too long thinking they have the right mix of players to get the job done. Guys like Tim Jackman and Brendan Morrison were kept when their values were probably the highest in hopes of winning, only to see their play fall off, the team miss their goals, and have to shuffle them off for the peanuts they were really worth all along.

Stajan should not be in the long term plans of this franchise and should be shuffled off soon as soon as their young centers start taking the reigns.

Morrison never had a high value as a Flame... They picked him up for nothing after Vancouver gave him a chance by having him in their camp as a non-contract player and he was definitely in the last gasps of his career as a 36 year old.

Jackman was never worth much more than a 6th round pick... The Flames signed him as a UFA for 2 years at the league min of 550k.

Yeah and I get that. My point wasn't that Morrison or Jackman were worth anything more than they got in the end, my point was that the Flames probably could have gotten a little more for both players had they not held on to them too long.

Morrison's 43 points in 66 games was pretty impressive for where he was in his career. Maybe Calgary gets 4th round pick pick to go along with an AHL player. Instead they held on to him because they thought they could make the playoffs, missed the show, and brought him back the next year where he was a shell of his former self and traded him for a one dimensional AHL player.

Jackman signs an extension when teams start asking about his availability. Maybe Calgary gets a 4th instead of a 6th if Calgary cuts its loses and trades him before the deadline instead of signing an extension.
