Kevin Lowe passed up Corey Perry and a 1st for Mike Comrie because....
...Because Comrie wouldn't cut Edmonton a 2.5M cheque returning money he had already earned.

Oh, Edmonton.

Busy for 11 years? Were you doing consulting work for the Oilers rebuilds?

And yet you're still about 5 years ahead of the Oilers' organizational self-reflection.

Did you guys hear that the U.S. has invaded Iraq? I heard it on a recording of a radio show I got off Napster.
They also said Arnold might run for governor in California. I can burn the RealAudio file to a CD if anyone wants to hear.

Total NHL goals by three players eventually traded for Comrie: 32, with no chance of increasing
Total goals by Perry: 263, and counting.
Of course, Edmonton would have ruined him. Also kind of funny the Anaheim's next first round pick was Smid...
How would repayment of bonus even work? Would he have not already been taxed on it?

I can't honestly believe that in the old CBA something like that was even remotely possible. Every time this comes up I shake my head.

wow, i didnt know this....
not sure i understand the logic behind the asks. Oilers were trading a contract for a prospect & pick, so it's money out, why did they need to recoup money from Comrie?

I've never heard of a demand like that ... easy to dogpile on the Oilers and maybe it's moron common practice than you'd think ... but it sure speaks to the arrogance of Lowe to basically demand ransom from a player to free himself from a city that he doesn't want to play in.
Why did things go so bad in Edmonton for Comrie?
Wasn't this deal basically done and then Lowe backed out causing Bryan Murray to snap?
