Will This City Support A Rebuild?
As the questions poses, will this city support a rebuilding franchise that is destined to pick last for several years? Remember the last time the Flames were really bad, they needed a campaign to keep them. Could the sellout streak end and attendance reach Phoenix levels?

I know people credit and blame the "the Hockey gods" a lot, but you may be overreaching.

Alright so if they don't finish dead last and continue missing the playoffs, will fans hand out their hard earned money for an inferior product? I say no. I don't blame them either. I know my uncle gave up his tickets and is no longer cheering for the team.

Wow crap, your Uncle gave up his tickets? Damn. What about your cousins friends sisters dog?
What is his current ticket status?

Those were completely different times. The Fans became more apathetic to the team because they lost all hope. The Flames were essentially almost functioning as a farm team to the big players. As a fan, you almost 'knew' that when one of the Flames' players would improve significantly, he would have to be traded away because we would not be able to afford his contract.
Flames will be fine. Some fans will fall off the bandwagon, and that is fine too. This isn't the 90's any longer.

Uncle, Cousin, and Brother in Law gave them up. It isn't worth it for them to support an inferior product. Don't blame them.

Between you and your uncle there are 2 less "fans" to lose, then.
Some fans will stick around, some won't. As long as the team is trying, and working at improving, I'll be there. As for losing the team, different times as it's been said. Flames aren't in financial danger like they were.

The team that picks last is the Cup winner. Yeah, I'd support my team if it did that for several years.

Good. Get those tickets in the hands of people who will cheer for the Flames through the tough times and be rewarded for it in the very near future. You and your family can find another team to support. Say, the one from Detroit?

Some fans will have patience. Some won't.
Some fans will choose not to renew. Some fans will decide its a good time to get season's tickets. Some fans will only recently be able to afford season tickets. So overall you might see a small decline in the season ticket base but I'd be surprised if we saw more than that.
If I have some more money next spring I would strongly consider picking up seasons tickets again, haven't had them since the lockout post cup run.

The way I see it. The current rebuild has been more fun to watch than the last two years of sloppy, lazy, uncaring play.
I'll take what I'm seeing now over anything I saw the last two years. At least I know there's a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Wow, people like that are kind of embarrassing to a hockey fan in general. The Flames aren't even my 'team' and yet I still find reasons to cheer for them this season.
I can see giving up your season tickets, some people just don't have an appetite for watching a team lose repeatedly. But "no longer cheering for them"? That's pretty embarrassing to say as a fan of hockey in general. Win or lose, you cheer for your team, if you don't want to give them money, don't, but abandoning your team just means you're a fair weather fan, and those fans generally aren't well respected.
To the point, I think the Flames will be fine. Calgary is filthy rich with people that have too much money on their hands. The big companies will still pay for their tickets as a way to treat employees and guests, and while some fans (both fair weather and devoted) drop their season tickets, others who have been waiting for the chance will scoop new ones up.
It's a good question, but it seems like it was only asked so OP could 'boast' about how his whole family and his sister's cousin's dog don't like the Flames any longer.

Good for them I suppose.
Contrary to many posters here, I do understand why some people give up tickets during rough periods; life is short, and season tickets are an expensive hobby. So if you don't see the value in it, I understand.
I do question keeping the tickets for the past three years but ditching them now, because aside from management flat-out lying and saying we were going to be good, I don't know how anyone can legitimately say these guys are less interesting than the last four years of partial-birth abortions we called Flames teams.
