Default Have Giftcards, need Ideas.

Over Christmas, I have picked up several gift cards, and now I need to figure out what to spend them on. They are all from different places, so I can't combine them to get something bigger. I have to buy things that don't cost much more then the card value. What would be some good things to get at these places?

Home Depot - $50
Future Shop - $50
Mark's - $50
Amazon - $25

HD - spare blades for power saws?

Future Shop - double up/buy spares on charging cords for phones/iPods/whatever; couple of movies?; game?

Marks - they have some really good winter socks, I'd buy a couple pair of those

Amazon - book

Just things I'd probably spend money on. YMMV.

Home Depot: LED Light Bulbs, "free" so you save money right away.
Future Shop: Wine aerator.
Mark's: Socks/Underwear. Throwing out the old underwear rotation is always an overdue task.
Amazon: Regift!

Hand tools, light bulbs, work gloves, garden stuff (plants in the spring, potting soil, pots, whatever), stuff for the barbeque, or air filters. Might even be able to pick up a small kitchen appliance or the like.

Or you could multiply the value of the gift card by buying a ton of drywall screws, throwing them out on the street, and opening up a tire repair shop....

Just buy whatever, return it all to walmart and get $175 to use at Walmart.

No harm no foul right?

Totally came here to post this

Why not check on Kijiji for people looking to trade. Maybe you could find another of the cards you already have and double up to purchase something more expensive.

-keep them
-store them in your vehicle
-Get an App called Google Keep for your Android or iOS device
-set up location based reminders for the each store for each card.
-when you pull into the Best Buy you usually go to you'll get a notification that you set up earlier. "Reminder - $25 gift card in glove box.

Google Keep is such a handy app for stuff like this. I find I never get decent stuff when I'm trying to get rid of it but I'll end up losing or forgetting all about them if I don't. A location based reminder is perfect for this. I set them up for gift cards I got this year too.

Pulled into Market Mall and ding, reminder I had an Eddie Bauer card.

Sell them on CP for $170. Because we all know there are people just waiting to go out of their way to meet a stranger in a parking lot to save $5.

Well, I just read this handy (no pun intended, but not regretted either) suggestion:

Quote:
The website Naughty America will accept gift cards from a dozen retail outlets or restaurants, including Starbucks or Target, in exchange for full access to their network of websites. A $15 card will get someone 16 days of membership, while a $100 card will earn someone 344 days.
While the website is for Americans, gift cards purchased in Canada could work on the system if they work with a gift card network called PayGarden. Businesses can sign up to be part of PayGarden and accept the cards as an alternative form of payment.

I know this isn't helping OP, but I'm wondering why people give gift cards for Christmas. I give kids over 14 a card with a nice plastic portrait of William Lyon Mackenzie King. Saves me a lot of time and them a lot of hassle. I buy toys for younger kids but I've always noticed older kids prefer to get their own.

What is the benefit of gift cards? IMO it's not like it's *actually* not cash, it really is, just a bigger hassle to spend it. Not trying to hijack the thread, just curious.

Not a bad idea. Pick your favourite PM and give kids a pic of that person. Teaches them national history as well!

I've always been a fan of Sir Wilfred Laurier.

Have you ever seen a rapper make it rain with gift cards?

Cash rules everything around me.

Cream, get the money, dolla, dolla bill y'all

As for why you get gift cards is you know there is a better chance the kid is going to buy something semi useful. Give the 14 year old zukes $50 and I'm buying weed!

But, give you a $50 gift card to Chapters and you're only buying $30 worth of weed because that was all you could sell the gift card for.

FYI there's a promo at Crossiron Mills on Jan 12 in which you trade in your unwanted gift cards, then get the equivalent balance on a mall gift card, and your original gets donated to Habitat for Humanity.
