Martin Erat Requests Trade
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=6...d=nhl:topheads
Quote:
Washington Capitals forward Martin Erat confirmed Monday that he has asked for a trade. He initially expressed his wish to be traded in an interview with the iDNES Czech news organization before confirming his request to reporters on Monday.
"Since day one, I didn't get the chance here," Erat said. "It's time for me to move on."
"Marty doesn't feel like he fits in here," McPhee said. "If you don't feel like you fit in, we'll try to accommodate you."

I still can't believe Washington gave up Filip Forsberg for Erat. That trade was as bad as Braydon Coburn for Alexie Zhitnik.
If only we could have gotten in on that trade for Cammy or Stempniak last year.

Yep, absurd trade that didn't make sense from the start.

The biggest problem for martin is that he just isn't very good. I can't imagine many teams would be all that interested in him, especially for what Washington is going to want to get back out of him.

I highly suspect that George McPhee was already working on it.

I'm surprised, I thought Erat would fit in well in Washington. If he cant fit in well in Washington, where will he fit in?

To me this guy is a no brainer for Florida to scoop up. They are shallow at Right Wing, lacking consistent veteran players in their lineup. Erat is about as consistent of a 45-60 point player as you'll find, who will also help your powerplay. And they should be able to get him for cheap.

Nah, I wouldn't want him here. I want to give all of our kids a chance before we pick up any potential top 6 players.
I don't know enough about him to suggest a good fit for him.
What is his cap hit and how long?

I would take a flyer on him...if we move Stempniak and Cammy first.
Sell high on Cammy and Stempniak, bring in Erat at a low cost, and then hope he produces over the next 14 months with top line minutes and sell high on him next season as a UFA.
Put him on a line with Hudler and hope for some Czech chemistry.
My guess is he ends up in Phoenix. Played a strong two way game in Nashville, will fit in on that roster, and his actual salary is much lower then his cap hit the next two seasons.

That isn't a bad idea but I agree, would need to move out those others first.
I wonder what wash would want from us.
Why not a stemps type for him.

I've always been a fan of Erat, he reminds me a lot of Langkow, his style and his consistency
I've barely seen him play in Washington so I have no idea why he wasn't given opportunities, but I'm sure he'll end up being traded at a cheap price and whoever gets him will win the deal

He asked at the beginning of the season as well:
Pierre LeBrun@Real_ESPNLeBrun2m
Martin Erat actually asked the Caps for a trade one week into the season and then once again last weekend. Caps will try to move him.
Pierre LeBrun@Real_ESPNLeBrun3m
Zero goals on the season, but the fact his salary dips to $2.25 million next season may help his value (cap hit stays $4.5 M).

Who would you trade to get him? His contract isn't bad at all.
I would trade stemps and a late pick, like 5th or 6th round. I'm not sure if that would be enough but I really wouldn't want to give them any potential prospects already in the system.

I wouldnt trade Stempniak straight up. Stempniak seems like hes game to be a part of the rebuild, I dont think you can say the same about Erat.
Stemps is a team player, Erat isnt. Which would you rather have around this team at this time?
