Default Gino Odjick in Quebec psychiatric hospital

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Gin...348/story.html

Quote:
Friends and business associates of former Vancouver Canuck Gino Odjick say they were worried about his mental health in the days leading up to Pavel Bure’s jersey retirement ceremony on Nov. 2 at Rogers Arena.

Odjick, who has spent the past five days in a psychiatric unit at a Gatineau, Que., hospital, was not in a good state prior to Bure’s ceremony, his business manager Kumi Kimura said Tuesday.

Odjick and close friends blame his health problems on concussions suffered while playing hockey and serving as an enforcer who frequently got involved in on-ice fights.

“He was way gone at Pavel’s thing,” Kimura said. “We were walking on eggshells.”

Odjick was admitted to the psychiatric unit at UBC Hospital in early September, but was released after only a few days.
Quote:
Odjick had travelled to Quebec following the death on Nov. 25 of his father, Joe Odjick.

Le Journal de Montreal reported Tuesday that an “agitated” Odjick had been admitted to the psychiatric ward of Pierre Janet Hospital Centre late last week.

Reporter Marc de Foy said Odjick told him two years ago that he was struggling with post-traumatic symptoms and has cognitive difficulties.

“When you get hit in the head a lot, it’s hard for the brain,” de Foy quoted Odjick as saying.

You think he actually checked himself into a mental hospital out of convenience with the recent lawsuit?

Okay, here I go, opening up a can of worms for the conspiracy theorists, but in the article it mentions that he spoke to Bob Hartley...

First Scott Parker, now Gino Odjick... Bob Hartley, a bully to be sure, is at fault for all the concussions in the NHL. Be on the lookout for more linkage to Hartley and concussions in the latest Bob Hartley expose. On newsstands soon.

That explains the really weird and random tweets from Gino I guess.

Mental illness issues aside, I hope the NHL and NHLPA steps in to really help these guys who are suffering because of repeated head trauma.

You can't blame all the headshots on the nhl. I watched Gino play as a ringer for the horse lake thunder (same year as Theo). It seemed like every game there was 4 or 5 guys wanting a shot at him. (He dominated most guys but there was a couple pretty decent tilts.) I do have to say that despite being a goon he was by far the best hockey player in the league.

There was always something a little off about him.

I recall one interview when he bragged about drinking a whole case a beer. I also remember the brutal headshot he gave Housley.

Not that I want to see him suffer, but he was kind of a jerk.

I read that as he had a relationship of some sort with Hartley and wanted to meet with him. Likely looking for guidance.

Hope he gets help and can enjoy a retirement worthy of the heart and dedication he demonstrated during his career.
