Flames Gaudreau named Hockey East's Player of the Week

http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=690968

Johnny Gaudreau notched 7 points in 2 games this weekend.

Calgary Flames prospect Johnny Gaudreau has been tabbed as Hockey East's Player of the Week after notching seven points in two games this weekend.

On Friday night, Gaudreau helped lead Boston College to a 5-1 victory over Boston University with one goal and a pair of assists. The tally was his 13th game-winner in his collegiate career and his eighth goal of the season.

The 20-year-old also scored the game-winner in the 11-0 Boston College trouncing over Army on Sunday. He contributed four points, his single-game high this season, in the victory with a couple of goals and a pair of assists.

Through nine games this year, Gaudreau has potted nine goals and 18 points. He is averaging an NCAA-best 2.00 points-per-game and is tied for third in the nation, averaging one goal per game. The New Jersey native is also tied for second in the nation in game-winning goals with three this year.

Gaudreau was named Hockey East Player of the Week on three times last year and picked up four Rookie of the Week honors during the 2011-12 campaign. He has also been named the league’s top Player of the Month four times and was named Hockey East Player of the Year last year.

The Flames selected Gaudreau in the fourth round (104th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft.

This guy will be the next Theo Fleury.. Tasmanian Devil written all over!

I had to watch the bottom 2 about 10 times each in order to figure out that they are two separate goals. Just dirty.

That breakaway is filthy. Blows right past the defense.

Which one? The first time or second time he did it in the same game?

You can see why scouts rave about the raw skill and hockey IQ this kid has. Plus he's been described as one of the most elusive players they've ever seen.... Difficult to check cause he seems to know what every defenseman is thinking before they do it. Can't wait for Johnny hockey!

Would that even still qualify a breakaway? Seemed like a 3 on 1 to me..

Look at his stats, http://www.ncaa.com/stats/icehockey-.../individual/99

He is producing far more points per game than the 2nd highest player (he's in a league of his own). In addition, he's a sophomore. The next best sophomore is 13th on the list.

Those are last season's stats. Gaudreau is a junior now

I had to chuckle about the part where he's credited with scoring the game winner in an 11-0 game.

He's an exciting prospect but Sven looked equally as good in junior scoring highlight reel goals but in the NHL he hasn't found any space. Time will tell with these small guys and there will likely need to be patience as they aren't going to be able to jump into the NHL as easily as a bigger guy.

Thanks. I was about to post that.

What is really odd about that list is that while J. Gaudreau is the second-leading scorer in NCAA Div-1, he is tied for fourth in goals and ninth in assists, while registering 9 of each. There is only a handful of players that appear among leaders in goals as well as assists, but Gaudreau is the only one to crack the top-ten on both lists.

I have to disagree. Baertschi looked amazing in his last year in the WHL, but Gaudreau has been ridiculously dominant this season. It's almost farcical how far ahead he seems to be plying from his peers.

Dear God Jesus, please let Gaudreau's game translate over to the NHL. So many times in the past this franchise has been let down by higher expectations. All of the odds are against Johnny. Please make him into a Marty St. Louis player that we don't trade away. Please make him into the star this team so desperately needs.

He attacks with so much speed on those rushes its sick. The chip play is so smart as the dman can't play the body and is suddenly in no mans land with how fast he is coming. Either take a penalty or see if he can make the play...pretty outstanding play.

On his second "breakaway" its not like he is starting in stride with the puck. It looks like he has to pivot once picking up the puck at the blueline and gets to full speed so quickly. You can see the opposing player #10, start skating with a bit of a head start and never gets close. Just sick.
