Fundamental of Engineering Exam
I have registered to give the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam end of October this year.
I am currently using the FE Review Manual by Michael Lindeburg. I have recently finished my engineering (April 2013) so most of the courses are decently fresh in my mind.
Any tips or advice on how to approach the exam or preparation? Also how do I prepare for the second half of the exam? The review manual is just dealing mostly with the first part. I will be attempting the mechanical engineering section for the afternoon part.

Order a few copies of the old exams from APEGA. That will give you the feel for what is being tested and what you should study in more depth.

Are you going to be practicing in the states? I have never heard of this exam being needed for Canadian engineers.
I just wanted to confirm, because there are no exams that need to be written by newly graduated engineers who are going to be working in Canada.

Yes, my intention is to move to the States. It is a requirement for most jobs I have come across.

I did it a few years ago. I honestly wasn't a 4.0 GPA student or anything, and I didn't spend a second preparing for it (stupid? lazy?) until the day of the FE exam, where I spent 30 minutes figuring out how the manuel provided was sorted, and I still passed. I think for the avg engg student, it shouldn't be a problem.
(Note: I'm not telling you to do what I did and be stupid/lazy but don't stress about it)

Haha that definitely makes me feel better about the exam. What section did you do for part 2?

I believe you can only see a pass/fail. Are you currently working in the States? If you do, what else did you do to get yourself noticed by companies out there?

I do, but I don't make use of my FE. I think I work in a different industry then you (tech)... what is your industry? People get moved in and around to the USA for a variety of reasons.
Why do you want to work in the USA? I do like living here (San Jose area), but there is a large part of me that would rather work in Canada or somewhere else besides the USA.

Different exam. The one you're referring to is still called the NPPE (National Professional Practice Exam).

The NPPE exam is terribly masked to be a professional exam, when it is an ESL exam. Very evident when everybody who knows english is finished in an hour, while the rest of immigrants that take the full time and don't finish.
Sorry, don't have much info on the FE exam though. I didn't have to take for my P Eng.

Just to let everyone know, I wrote the FE exam last month. I thought it went quite well, but will not know the result for a bit.
If anyone is planning to give the exam, familiarize yourself very well with the equations in the handbook. You should know when to use them and how to use them as well. I picked up a review guide (Lindeburg) to brush up my knowledge. I didn't do much prep for Part 2 which should be your strong suite since you choose your discipline.
They are going to be changing the exam from 8 hours to 6 hours starting January next year. They will also be switching it to computer based test.
