Default In praise of Dr Who.

It's on tonight at 10 MST on CBC HD and 12 on local stations.
I havn't watched much of this show over the years but this version is maybe the best show on TV this summer.

Yeah this season was good but not as good as the previous one. The special effects keep getting better which is a good thing.

Part of the charm of Doctor Who is campy and cheesy special effects though.

That's why I still prefer Doctor Who 1964-1989 versus the current version.

I tired to like it. I really did. But when those kids walked out in gas masks...well...that was it for me. I guess I am just one of those people who doesn't "get it". I love sci fi, I love British humour, I even love British sci fi humour (Red Dwarf), but Dr Who has never managed to grab and hold my attention.

I also thought the female lead was a little pudgy around the face (although I am an admitted fatist, so perhaps that is neither here nor there).

Yes, I never liked Rose. I'm somewhat glad she's going but I don't like her replacement either.

I was searching for a thread like this, and it is just ironic that the dates line up almost perfectly.

I think this is the best show on television right now. The last two episodes have been fantastic. Really looking forward to the last four of the series coming up. It takes a lot of will power not to watch them on tvlinks.

I used to watch a lot of tv and had a number of "must see" shows each week. Now "Doctor Who" is the only one. Fantastic show.

I watched all of the current season on TVlinks months ago. I do have some difficulties with it like how the writers seem to be upping the drama by putting the Doctor into increasingly unwinnable situations and then cheating the ending by giving him more and more deus ex machina powers...not to mention infinte sonic screwdriver abilities.

That said, you will enjoy very much the conclusion of the series. In fact, if indeed the last 4 episodes of series 3 are coming up for you...and you know some history of Who...wow!!! Be prepared to be utterly blown away by some of the most amazing television you will ever watch this year.

"Blink" is singlehandedly the best single episode of any television series I have seen in the last couple of years and definetely the best episode of any sort of science fiction in a decade or more.

BTW -> before you see the last 2 episodes ... go back and watch the series over again. Make sure you check out this season's buzz word (the word that pops up inexplicably time and time [literally] again over several episodes). Also go back and check out the Face of Boe and what he said. (You Are Not Alone). Also take note of what the Doctor did to hide himself as a Time Lord in the Family of Blood.

Hack&Lube - I totally agree "Blink" was super awesome! If you have never seen Doctor Who its a reason to start watching.

Just watched "Blink" the other day.

Possibly the best hour of television I've watched in my life. Outstanding.

I also watched the entire first series over the last three days. Great stuff. Empty Child/Doctor Dances was amazing. So was the last episode. Wow. I just cannot get enough of this show.

Also, watching the first series makes me really miss Billie Piper. The new girl is just not up to her standard. The news that the new companion in series four is going to be the woman from the 2006 Christmas special is not good. I didn't like her at all. I wish they would have the girl from Blink be the new companion (I wouldn't be surprised if she is for series 5) or the actress from "the girl in the fireplace".

I can't wait for the final three episodes of this series. I'm in the process of re-watching series 2 and will re-watch series 3 before watching the final 2 episodes.

Edit: Hmmm..."rewatch" is not a word...I'm not sure what would fit better. Oh well.

With the 50th anniversary nine days away, it's time to resurrect this thread - Captain Jack style!

Anyone else excited for the anniversary special? It's on at 12:50 pm MT on Nov 23 on Space. It's also being played in a number of theatres across Canada on the 23rd and 25th. Here is some info:

http://www.doctorwho.tv/whats-new/ar...s-and-cinemas/

Also, there is a docudrama that's been produced "An Adventure in Space and Time", which is supposed to be excellent; info here:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/do...n-of-love.html

And today there was a prequel to the anniversary special, titled "Night of the Doctor". For longtime fans, it is pretty epic!

Finally, if you plan on watching the special, but haven't seen series 7 yet, I recommend at least watching the final episode "Name of the Doctor".

Geronimo!

Edit: Mods, feel free to move this to the tv forum - this thread was posted long before sub forums existed!
