Icon30 Stuff to do in Miami

So the girlfriend won the Q107 fly away to miami to see the Eagles, we`re going to be there for four night from the 21st to the 25th of this month, staying in South Beach, yay.

The obvious question since neither of us have ever been to Florida before, is there anything we should definitely not miss while we`re there? Anything that we should try to avoid? Any advice would be appreciated!

Oh, and of course the Panthers are in Calgary that weekend lol.

I have a good friend from there, and been a few times, but not since 2008, so I am sure I am pretty dated. Funny thing is I will be there at the end of month too for a return visit.

One thing I can advise is renting a car and going to the Keys. The drive is pretty spectacular. Key West is very chill but if that is your style, maybe spend a night there and go for a quiet dinner and drive back. Get a convertible or something nice. You can go there and back in one day too. Try and stop at some of the beaches along the way.

Try Cuban food, the only place in South Beach I know is Puerto Sagua. I like it, and it is authentic. Unless you want to go to Little Havana.

Outside of that, not much else I can recommend I have been to, and would be touristy. I like to go eat in Hialeah, but you probably don't want to go there without a local. However, you should have a great time as Miami is a pretty awesome city, and one a my favorites in the US.

There's so much great Cuban food in Miami, but Versailles is my favorite.

It's not specific to Miami, but, if you like obscene amounts of meat, got to Fogo de Chao Brazilian steakhouse. The price is reasonable for the quality and quantity of food, but you can save some money if you go for lunch.

Skip The Eagles.

I love the Kennedy Space Center, but it is a fair drive North of Miami (3 hours).

I head out to Miami every year. Love that place.

If you guys are into clubbing, South Beach has a ton of great places. Space is my favorite though. One of the top clubs in the world. 3 rooms, great sound and nice staff. And the creepyass guy behind the exhibition glass right when you enter is my favorite.

If you go to Biscayne Bay, hit up Cviche 105. It's a Peruvian restaurant on 3rd ave and it's freaking awesome. Also be careful with parking downtown if you drive. Parkades are hard to find, and they often lock the gates after a certain time. There is a parkade right by Bayside market place (on Biscayne Blvd) that's open the whole day.

And go to Bayside market. It's an outdoor market right alongside the port. Some cool stuff to look at there. You can spend an entire day out there and totally lose track of time.

Take a tour on one of the Miami tour boats. It goes all along the bay, and even by all the celebrity houses (Palm, Star and Hibiscus islands).

If you rent a car, be careful where you park on the street. Some signage is incredibly poor, which means you WILL get towed. We wasted an entire day trying to get our car back since they have something like a million privately owned impound lots.

A trip out to the Everglades is pretty cool if your into that kind of stuff.

If you're going with your gf, wear sunglasses. There is so much tail out there it's ridiculous, and she will bust you. I learned that the hard way.

There are homeless people downtown that will ask you for money, but they are willing to work for it. For example, they will flag taxis for you, tell you how to get into parkades after hours, etc.

Thanks for the good suggestions, have to track me down some of that good southern powder somehow lol. I was thinking about doing the Miami aquarium, but I dont think we`re going to rent a car and I don`t want to spend a fortune on cabs, does anyone know if cabs are reasonably priced out there?

Just spend time in South Beach. Lincoln Street Pedestrian mall, Ocean Drive art deco, etc. Versailles in Miami is a must for Cuban. Seriously.

Party with Richie Incognito. He's got some time on his hands now.

Just don't give him your phone number.

Just find a seat on Lincoln and watch the people go by. There are so many 10s it's ridiculous. I really enjoyed the Peter Lik gallery on Lincoln as well. Really wanted to buy one of his shots, but somehow couldn't find $12,000.

I'd rent a car, unless you want to spend your entire trip at South Beach. Miami is huge.

If you rent a car, make you sure know where you're going and don't get all turned around and end up in the very wrong part of town.

Cabs are similarly priced as they are here. But Miami traffic is crazy. You have to drive over that huge bridge that connects SB and Biscayne (downtown). Traffic is absolutely nuts on there when its busy. Everytime I take a taxi over there, we end up sitting in traffic for easily 40+mins. If you taxi it everywhere, you will spend lots of $.

If you are able to rent a car, IMO you should. It's cheaper, and google Maps is your friend. I find the city itself quite easy to navigate, moreso then a lot of other places I've driven in.

Rent a car and go to Key Largo to see Florida Keys. This a day trip. Take the saltwater and fresh water boat tours to see mangroves, they are amazing, if you like nature. You will see a lot of wildlife and spectacular scenery. Stop by for the famous Florida Key Lime Pie at the small roadside cafe just 10 minutes south of the Visitor's Centre. This is where locals get it.

Shop at Sawgrass Mills Premium Oultets - this is also a day trip.

There is little to do in Miami during a day other than lying on the beach, really. It's just too hot and humid. Nightlife is a hole other story, of course.
